Hi everyone, I'm Ray Forster and I live in deepest Cornwall, England. I have been reading all the threads for a while now (without posting) to get a flavour of the site, and have visited most of the others mentioned throughout all the previous posts. I own a '77 400GT that I bought nearly 2 years ago and will soon be getting it back on the road again after a series of unfortunate engine problems; first, a spark plug was smashed and necessitated a partial top end strip to discover if there was any other damage - none, thankfully (damage cause unknown as there was nothing in the cylinder)- followed by a bent valve - on a different cylinder - just a short while later! Anyway, the repairs are nearing completion and I am really looking forward to getting back on the road. Whilst the car has been in the workshop, I have visited regularly and have noticed a few things that need tidying up; one such thing is whether my car should have a 400 badge of some sort on the back. It was completely rebuilt in the early '90s and had a colour change to Blu Scuro (interior is still original blue); the only badges on the rear are the Ferrari on the boot lid and the small cavallino on the right near the tail lamps. Does anyone know if should it have a 400 as well? Keeping The Faith. Image Unavailable, Please Login
While not an expert, I believe you should have a badge on the left side of the rear, between the tailight and the plate
Hey Ray, Is your car an automatic or a 5 speed? If it's an automatic, I have the emblem you're looking for. It should go on the back, to the left of the license plate. Let me know.
Ray F Welcome to your first posting on FChat and yet another V12 owner of the series! Yes, your car should have a 400 logo on the left side of the rear panel. If an automatic, the word appears below the 400. The others who have chimed in here know what they are talking about but visual verification can be found from photos of the rear of a 400 in David Owen's Osprey AutoHistory series "Ferrari 4-Seaters", published in 1983. Good luck with the final stages of getting your car back on the road! John
Thanks all, mine is a 5 speed and I'll try to find a copy of the Ferrari 4 seaters book. Keeping the Faith.
Ray Your car should have the 400gt badge to the left of the number plate, it should looks like this Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Andrew, that was just what I was looking for. I shall get onto Eurospares pdq. Keeping The Faith, Ray.
No joy from Ferrari UK, Eurospares or QV London. Anyone have any ideas where else I might search for this badge? Keeping the Faith Ray.

Hi I own a '79 400 automatic. I realize I never paid attention to the 400gt logos so I can't help you. Anyway, I see your picture and I notice the panel between the tail lamps is blue. On my car, it is black, the car color being grey. Anyway, your car looks great.
Hi, I just found a picture for you, a '79 400 manual gearbox. The logo can be seen, it would be a 400i without the mention 'automatic' below. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks everyone, still looking;the 400GT is the correct motif for a carb/manual car. Having just got my car back I thought I'd post a couple of pics, hope you like. Next doors son has been waiting for it to return so he can have a ride - so i took him and his Dad for a blast down the Cornish lanes this afternoon; what a hoot! Keeping the Faith, Ray F. Still unable to locate 400GT motif. Black-barts have not replied and none of the usual sources can help - *** cannot even find a part number. i know not many 400GTs were built, and there are plenty of 400A and 400i motifs around, but these are not the correct ones for my car. Help! Keeping the Faith Ray.
By the way, I apologize, I gave you a useless information. I thought 400GT were the manual flavour of the 400i auto, and it's wrong. So, there is a specific 400gt logo. Hope you will find it some day. Rgds Olivier
Apologies to administrator if the initials I put in were not allowed - they were the initials of a particular supplier, no offence or insult intended! Bill, my car's chassis number is 22569. Keeping the Faith Ray.
Ray, If you've had any probs posting please e-mail or pm one of the mods (me for example) Had a thought about the badge (Ok my dentist had an idea ), This may sound a bit wacky but......use a 400i badge as a template for the , complete as a 400gt badge in dental plaster and re-cast in resin, painting and plating should then be able to match the finish...just a thougt, I know with these cars sometimes a bit of lateral thinking is required to get parts that fit properly!
