I was just talking to someone who told me that the engines were not of the same family, in spite of the obvious visual similarity. Is this true? Are there any parts (e.g. camshafts) in common between the 365 GTC/4 and the later 2+2s?

I looked around for a thread on this, there probably is one, sorry if I missed it.

Same family of motors just different evolutions, I think Norwoods (could have been somebody else) built a hotrod motor for a 365 gtc/4 out of a combination of 365 & 400 bits

Thanks, I must have misunderstood what he was trying to tell me. I imagined that this was the case, but I'd never compared parts.

Same angle of the V, same general dimensions, similar layout of camshafts, just different dimensions on bores and strokes.

Same family the way that the Lampredi V12s were of the same family despite many variations in capacity dimensions.

    Thanks, that makes sense.

Would it be fair to say that if one were rebuilding a motor to the extent of getting new pistons and rods, than one could swap heads and oil pans between the models (adjusting for bore and compression, of course)?
