Ok. Engine is out. It looks dirty but there are no obvious problems at a glance. Engine bay overall looks good either, while I didn't expect that. But some rust was detected. I think that writings were made on the factory cause I found "99" stamps in the engine bay. Today I was really surprised. My mechanic was able to do in one day: the TSB work, change water pump, change everything what should be changed at 30k, check valves, do the timing, assemble everything back and I even couldn't manage to make any photo of the process. Valve covers are repainted at the moment, I'm thinking of sandblasting and powder-coating for the sub-frame. Still need to repack grease in the flywheel, axles and some other small things, change all the bushings and mounts. BTW, all the drain holes work was done by previous owner. Concerning body, everything in the back is being disassembled to check it for the rust and other damages. What a fantastic thread! I just read it from the beginning. This is a true resurrection! I'll bet your employees are having fun with this one.
Thank you. Honestly, they were a little scared at first but everything turned out to be quite easy. Subframe is striped and ready for sandblasting. Flywheel grease repacked, clutch checked, bearings changed, gearbox is ready. P.S. I know about horse on the cover. Looking good, you're making progress just in time for the coming summer! Reminds me that I should go to the garage today, hehe! I'm also looking at an engine out service after I get the front / interior done, good to know it's not that big of a deal. Should be doable over a weekend, I suppose. I also got some new parts for the GT-R... neverending projects these cars! Should probably get myself a Prius to resist the urge to make my car go faster and handle better
Prius will be just more tough project and that's why more interesting one. Sunny days are the best driving force. I definitely sure that a good mechanic will do it in a couple of days. I see your project is also moving forward. Subframe is back. All new bushings are installed but the ones showed in the picture. The one on the left is 'Front & Rear Shock Absorber Bush' but since I've got aftermarket shocks they don't fit. The one on the right is 'Upper Rear Wishbone Bush, inner & outer', there are 8 of them in the rear suspension but I received only 4 from supplier. So for now we will change only one side and I will contact the shop for 4 more. And in the end the picture of one more problem to be solved. Which wiring harness is the damaged one? I have one spare front end wire set that I won't be needing...
Thanks! I will keep it in mind. Since I last spoke engine once was in the car and running but there was a metal sound and we had to take it apart once again. We took of the head to check everything inside but everything was good and a problem was in the timing. Hope now everything solved. 15 minutes after I took this pics engine was back in the car. Once again I have to say a big thank you to Daniel from Ricambi, he was so helpful and fast with sending me a head gasket. My car is 1990 and S/N is 86869. It has a cover on the glove box; I'm told that in 1991 this was changed to open.
Great thread! Enjoyed reading it from the start. There is another thread with a burnt spider, so much work. I don't mind a project but not this much. What a turnaround, you guys have so much patients! My hats off to you guys!
Thanks guys! We keep in touch with Juhani, never seen him in person but he is extra nice guy in a written communication. So since you are still interested in my project here is an update. Today is the day. My 348 is in the paint room, it took so long cause there was a lot of work in the body shop for insurance companies and I couldn't break the line. Cheers, Evgeny! Hopefully we'll meet at some point as we're living in neighbouring countries. I was about to say that we're not too far apart but on a closer look it's 1100km from Helsinki to Moscow... damn Russia is huge!! I finally got some videos of my car: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrOp3RHzxA8]Ferrari 348 Mallaskatu tunnel - YouTube[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHQH0V2snVY]Ferrari 348 Mallaskatu tunnel onboard - YouTube[/ame]
Hey man, I keep an eye on your thread. I'm really happy for you and a little bit jealous. I'm pretty sure we will meet one day, at least you are always welcome in Moscow or I hope to ride my Ducati through northern Europe next year. Couple more pics. Hey everyone, here is a big surprise... the car is not finished yet. )) Decided to keep the thread updated. The virus lockdown gave me some free time and brought my attention to my unfinished project. Status: body restoration was completed back in the time of the last post and the car is sitting in the garage.
