A gentleman form Connecticut once owned a car like this. Do you happen to know if this is the same car? Bob Z.
This is s/n 0880 (was 0878) and was owned by Mr. William Binnie (Don't know if he is from Connecticut). AFAIK he owned the car since 2001 and it participated on many occasions in the Ferrari Historic Challenge.
Bill Binnie bought 0880 in November 2000 from Symbolic. This is the only short chassis 312 P left. Correct name is 312 P, not PB. The "B" was added by journalists but is not an official factory designation. Marcel Massini
Marcel - yes, now I remember. The car belonged to Mr Sachs. Regarding the "P" and "PB" - as I was told, the original 312P was a 3 liter 60 degree V-12. My friend owned the car for a while - I helped him deliver it from Mr Secard (sp?) to his home in upstate NY. The 312PB that Mr Sachs owned and I did a bit of work on it at Watkins, has a FLAT 12, hence the "B" for boxer. Make sense? Bob Z.
Factory never called them PB. Even today they still say 312 P. Also the build sheets say 312 P only. The name of the guy is François Sicard. Marcel Massini
Here is the advert of Peter Sachs, published in July 1982 in "Thoroughbred & Classic Cars" magazine, for 0894. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
A good 312 P(B) is worth today at least US$ 2.2 M and up. I think the last one sold was 0886 in September 2005. Marcel Massini
here is a pic of 0880 taken at misano 2002. it´s interesting, whats left, when the body is taken off for servicing. Image Unavailable, Please Login
At least four 312P's have been sold in the last two years. 0880 to USA in 06, 0890 to GB in 06, 0892 to USA in 05 and 0886 to GB in 05. I believe that 0880 is not the only 'short wheel base' car in existence (2.22m). 0882 (currently Christian Glasel) and 0884 ( currently Pierre Bardinon) had 2.22m Wheel base and were diposed of at the end of the 1972 season by the factory. The remaining cars 0886-0896 had their chassis's altered at the front to increase the wheelbase.
