How on earth could someone allow their 275 to be restored by anyone other than a Ferrari specialist who loves Ferrari's is beyond me. Having a craftsman who loves Ferrari's makes all the difference in the world. One could chose a very talented body person to do their bodywork who is a Chevy fan and only works on other cars to pay the bills, but this person is only passionate about Chevy's. They can do great work, but I want someone who loves my car as much or more than I do. That means there is more going into their work than what it takes to just pay bills. I hate body guys who think they can work on anything, because their best is always reserved for what they love. You only do truly great work on what you love and are passionate about.

As a professional saxophonist, I can play anything if the money is right and I will always do good work even if I do not particularly care for what I am playing at the time. If you want me to do great work, have me play a live recording at the Village Vanguard in NYC and I promise even non-music people will be able to tell a difference in the passion of the music. Yes, there is undoubtely that much difference.

I think Napolis summed it up in an earlier posting on this thread when stated that some people are going to understand this, and some just plain will not.

If we are talking about cosmetics, any good paint shop can do a show winning paint job on a vintage Ferrari. The problems start when they need to put things back together. It takes someone who specializes in Ferrari, old Ferraris, that know how to make the doors fit and close properly, know the correct rubber moldings to use, know to tell the chrome shop to chrome and polish the window trim without bending it, know what platting the door strikes should be, know where to use flat head vs phillips screws, and know how and where to get all the small replacement parts if needed. Its all in the details. I am all for saving money and looking for a bargan, but when you are dealing with an expensive car you want to use the best talent to keep the value of your investment strong. I say do as much of the work yourself as you can and leave the rest to the pros. A good restoration does not cost, it pays....I could keep on preaching but I need to go to jiffy lube to have the oil changed in my lusso....

Some restoration sites I like: www.Ibrandoli.it, [email protected], healeywerks.com. Most of the big Ferrari shops in the US do not have websites.. Some do not even have computers.
