Of course not. What makes you think this could be 2701 GT?
The real 2701 GT is in USA and owned by Ned Spieker.
Here are pix of the real 2701 GT, taken at Laguna Seca 9 August 2015.

    Thank you very much Marcel.
The owner & his wife of "this car" are on the pics.
The SWIZOL dudes told me, thats the one;)
    (Deshalb mein Fragezeichen)
    So, what is it?

Anyway, if this is not the real one or a real 205 GT SWB - Mods, please delete the thread, what a shame, I`m sorry :(

    It is a replica.
It is not the only replica you photographed in Schwetzingen this weekend.
The Swissvax guys have no idea whatsoever.

However, the original PROVA MO 170 plate (ex Scuderia Serenissima) is today with Egon Hofer and isn't the pictured gentleman Egon himself?

    Sorry to ask...
The plate is the original #2701?
The shown car in Schwetzingen is a fake/replica?
The gentelman himself is Mr. Anton Hofer from Austria?
Here is a close up pic from the gent who drove/brought the "car". He spoke austrian dialect.

Marcel, I`m NOT a vintage expert, I`m only in love with 250 GT SWB.
    May I ask you:
He once sold his original 250 GT SWB, today with Ned Spieker, stored the original plate and today he is driving a replica from his old beloved original 250 GT SWB?
Anyway, its a great looking car and the gentelman (Mr. Hofer?) was very friendly, charming and graceful.

this is Mr. Egon Hofer of course. He owned some SWBs, real ones and rebodied or rebuilt cars.
Mr. Hofer is very nice - as you already mentioned - and has added very much to austrian Ferrari- and Maserati history over the decades.

the car shown is a mix of components from different 250s. He does not really want to talk about details. I think he wants to enjoy the car as it is - not more or less.

and it seems to be fun - see him drifting the car through a u-turn at the Ennstal Classic Racecar-Trophy with the one and only Mauro Forghieri as co-driver.

    Hello Michael,
thank you very much for the explanation, much appreciated.
The 250 from Mr. Hofer in Schwetzingen was without any doubt a wonderful car and I personal don`t care about if ist 100% original down to the dust from `61.
The curves & the body are breathtaking.
Only the SWIZVAX dudes lead me wrong - anyway.
Mr. Hofer & his wife were a real enrichment for the event, open-minded, always smiling and still, after so many years of Ferrari passion, in love with the cars.
He pet his car/polish and showed/explained the silky polish his wife - just a charming couple. Awesome great pleasure to meet them.

Best regards from Heidelberg to Wien & the Ferrari Club Austria

If a replica or bitsa but not the chassis number quoted, shame on FIVA and judges. They have to do their homework. And if I were the real owner of the real car I know what I would do, notwithstanding the contribution of the owner of the replica to the community and how charming he is. One day people will be lost to which one is the real car etc.

I think people are already lost with all those fakes. Same with Bugatti or others...

Can someone tell me the purpose of the small vertical plexiglass panels on the hoods of some of the older Ferrari's like this one?

Flies and Mosquitos deflecting on race cars. If you do a proper DNA analysis you will find encrusted remnants of 1950 insects if this is a real car,,and nothing if it is a replica!😡

So the same as the "bug deflectors" we see on the front of modern cars and trucks today.

I thought so, but hoped it served some more esoteric purpose on the classics, lol.

Surely you guys could make up something more entertaining than that!

I was recently at a car show (Supercar Sunday) when a couple of good ol' boys walked up to 2689GT (1961 LeMans class winner, beautifully restored to '61 specs) and one asked the other what that thang was on the hood. His bud responded, "I dunno, but you kin get them thangs at Pep Boys." I didn't have the heart...

That plexiglass screen is an early, primitive attempt of a "head's-up" display for rally instructions in events such as the MM and Targa Florio. The cars were often too loud inside for the driver to hear the navigator. Deflecting bugs was a side-benefit.
