    Greetings all,

My dad has had a 250 Ellena for the past 35 years and lately he's been talking about moving on to something different. The car was restored roughly 10 years ago and is a very original car - down to the exhaust. As you can imagine, over the past 35 years the car has become part of the family so this is an extremely difficult decision. Dad has never been into Ferraris for the money, but he knows the market is pretty good right now.

A few questions from Ferrari selling novices:

    - What's the best way to sell?
An auction is self explanatory, but how do you target buyers if you're trying to do it privately? If auctioning, what are some things to watch out for?

    - When you sell a car like this, how can you avoid the tax hit? I know a 1031 exchange is a possibility, is there anything else to consider?

    - What are some important things to consider when selling the car?

    - Does anybody have any recommendations on who can HONESTLY guide us through this?

    - Finally, what's the market value of an Ellena?

    Thank you!

The best way depends on what are your goals. An auction house will ask you a percentage (not little), an entry fee but on a car like this you can ask them to have reserve price.
Selling it as a private party could be tiresome. To me, the best way is contacting a serious broker, having an estimate and then let him search for a buyer upon a fee.
