I'm not sure if he got hired on with them. 2 years ago he started with RF w/ one of the teams nationwide cars and last year they moved him to the #16 sprint cup car.

Dillon took a big hit to the right rear in the prior crash, I wonder if that broke a track bar or something.

well with the Larson crash the car was really loose just before, so you could think it was a broken car. but after that last crash maybe it was a broken driver :)

I'm pretty sure his fans don't care for some big city IT lawyer with a fancy ferrin car, either :)

I was surprised by the strength of JR Nation yesterday, in pre-race intros only he and Danica got huge applause (and Kyle Busch got booed like he kicked a puppy around the track). For someone who hasn't had much success for the past few years, Jr still has a HUGE following. I guess tradition, and surnames, matter to NASCAR fans.

NASCAR is tradition and history. Dillon's heritage, #3, and Jr winning makes great history. Too bad Dillon crashed out. Danica showed well,

Would like to see someone other than JJ win the championship, hopefully Jr.

I enjoyed the finish of the race.

Maybe someone can clarify the NASCAR rules for me because something that took place in the 500 does not make sense to me.

In the first round of pit stops Matt Kenseth spun his car in pit lane and had his tire change done in reverse (car facing the wrong way). In order to enter his stall he actually drove under power the wrong direction down pit lane. In all the racing I have ever seen this is a huge no no and I can't believe he was not penalized for it.

Did I miss the penalty or was it overlooked by NASCAR?

The race begins around 1 PM and ends around 11:20 PM, and if Daytona had not had lights they'd be racing today instead - now you know why I much prefer road-course racing!

to be fair with the lightning and tornado warnings in the area, road racing would have been red flagged too for worker and fan safety.

He pretty much spun right into his stall and just had to pull up a few feet to clear the box to start the pit. Once done he can drive the wrong way to get going the right way and NASCAR allows it. Nothing unusual there.

However, I feel NASCAR was wrong for giving the #5 a penalty for entering pit road to fast as he was trying to avoid contact from the spinning car. NASCAR has always allowed cars to speed down pit road if needed to avoid a wreck and this was no different. That was a blown judgement call in my opinion.
