1989 Ferrari 412i Chassis 82116

Besides the something funny with the seats, that's a really nice 412.

 

Except the poo coloured interior lol. Im on a roll!

 

Unfortunately raising the trunk height vs the 400 to increase downforce had a negative effect on the lines of the car.

 

Interesting - I did not know this was the reason for the change.

To each his own... to my eyes, the 412 rear looks much more balanced and in line with the front to rear wedge shape of the car. I much prefer it to the 400, although both are beautiful.

The difference is certainly subtle but enough to go away from what was the original design where the look was sacrificed to provide stability at high speeds.

It did, which makes me dislike the 412 more than I should. That and the horrible wheels.

 

I never knew that but now that you have pointed it out, the subtle shift of height from the base of the windshield and the top of the trunk is noticeable. What has been seen now cannot be unseen. I will always be squinting when I look at a 412 from now on!

Indiana, for those that are not familiar, is friendly to mostly American pick up trucks, trucks, pick up trucks, trucks, and some Mustangs, Camaros, and Corvettes. Not sure why they chose this location for the vehicle but... it will either be a steal or, a no-sale.

I didn’t see that it has the CA BAR sticker... is the plan to get it certified?

Congratulation on this purchase. Love the color combination, makes the car distinctive from the usual black or creamy interior. On top of it, in the long run, the patina of these dark leathers is outstanding.

Ross, the process is not for the faint of heart, as California doesn’t make it an easy or inexpensive process to go through. I unfortunately don’t have any suggestions on where to start this, but there must be folks that do this regularly - there’s definitely a niche market in CA for 90s Japanese domestic market models, so perhaps this may be a place to start.

I also own a 412 5 speed which was CARB certified back in 1986 (it was bought to CA as a new car). LMK if you’re interested in any reference pics or would like to see it in person (in the SF Bay Area).
