We had the opportunity to buy this 246 GTS Dino from its second owner, a former California State Trooper who imported the car from Italy in the mid 1970s. It has had one repaint its entire life and wears majority of its original interior.

The door panels, seats and carpets are all original. Someone re-did the dash, center console and the top of the door panels in non-correct materials during its last repaint in the 1980s.

The old lacquer paint has some bubbling, scratches and cracks but overall the body is very straight with no signs of rust or corrosion.

The car is essentially a basic Dino, no power windows, no AC, no flares, no chairs... you can call it a lightweight! Haha.

The car runs and drives and is a great restoration candidate or fun driver.

    Asking $298,000

I can’t believe these cars could have been had for around 48K ten years ago. Smh. Hindsight is 20:20 I suppose.

I wouldn't do a thing to it unless it was safety related, just keep it and drive it. Beautiful car!

Just for the record...the last time these cars could have been had for under 50 G's was 1987/88...a little more than 10 years ago.

Beg to differ. Just 10 years ago at Mecum Auction in Pebble Beach one sold for 48K. I was there and my only regret is that I didn’t buy it.

Fluke, no. Extremely lucky, yes. You can see the shape of this car in the Supercars of today.

i agree and would guess that that those who claim under 100 thousand are not owners , in 1980 when i bought mine ( 73 gts ) asking prices for the gts were around $30,000 up to $35,000 for c&f . HOWEVER - back then if memory is correct the coupes were maybe 1/2 the price of the spiders. i also find it interesting how many claim dinos used to be "cheap" - by today's prices of course but in 1980 it was $$$ for most.

With all due respect, I think you either are mis-remembering, or you were at a special time and place where NO ONE else knew anything or was present.

I have searched for this sale and can’t find it.

If this is real, the serial number will prove my disbelief wrong.

Shawn, you might be right about one thing. I know the price was 48K but I’m uncertain as to whether it sold for that number. I assumed it did but it may have been a no sale. I’m not “misremembering” the price though. Still think about that “could have should have” moment pretty regularly:)

    Best, Thomas

I passed on a 1969 246GT lightweight at Fantasy Junction in 1998. The ask was 45K and I was pointed to the car from Ferrari of SF. Car smoked badly from engine compartment as we reentered the parking lot. Wound up buying a Jag. Looked at Dinos again in 2001 saw a really nice GT, the only Dino I would own, for 80K at FOLI. They just kept going up from there. Looks like they are coming down now as is everything, but I'm passed a Dino.
