Looks like L72 engine option? The big daddy with solid lifters. Rated at 425HP. I think the 450HP number is some later rating, so I wouldn't expect the air cleaner sticker to be original. such a minor issue. This is a really cool ride. Would love to cruise down a CA boulevard in this baby. The combination of options might make this a serious collectible - engine, knockoffs, color, side pipes. Would need to see the protect-o-plate and build sheet.
Always, always tons of questions about the veracity of a BB 'Vette, so here are two more....1) original side pipe car? B) original Kelsey-Hayes KO's? I owned a gorgeous '66 SB coupe in the same Sunfire Yellow, so I love that. Cool car, esp if some sort of provenance exists. steve
Thank you, This is a a factory original #'s matching corvette verified by Roy Sinor (expert NCRS Judge), whom we utilize to verify all our corvettes. Original side pipes and original KH KO's. Correct this is an original 427/425 IP code = 450 hp (rated by the factory). This car is the real deal, all inspections are encouraged and welcome.
The L-72 engine option was offered 1966 only. For a short time, the factory rating was 450 hp at something like 6200 RPM. Sometime after the start of production, the motor was not changed, but the output rating was dropped to 425 hp at a lower RPM, something like 5600. Unknown as to why, may have been related to a more favorable insurance rating or some such thing. So either rating is "correct" based on when the engine was assembled. Very nice looking car!
Essentially, Roy Sinor is to Vintage 'Vettes as Marcel Massini is to vintage Ferraris. steve (Mosport Green '66 BB coupe, factory A/C/4 speed....repro KO's and non-original, but great sounding, sidepipes. Driven to work today!) steve
