We all saw the publicity photos and read the specs: Supposedly built on a Lamborghini Diablo VT chassis and powered by a 6.3-liter W-18 and complete with all-wheel drive.

I know there was an engine that was often displayed alongside the car, but does anyone know if this prototype was actually functional and self-propelled? Was it given a Bugatti chassis number? Where is it now? Still with VW?

By the way, I'm going to guess that VW still has it. Here's a family photo (Veyron, Chiron, EB218 & EB118) released by VW:

It's not a running concept. It was on display at the Torino Auto museum as a part of an exhibit in 2008. A lot of the cars were from design houses in the area, so I'm assuming it is in Giugiaro's possession.

I have wondered this same thing. Ever since I first saw this car, from the front at least, I thought it was very nice.

Agree- nice from the front, awkward from the rear.

The Giugiaro design of the Chiron is much better than the Veyron design.

yeah i have to agree, a lot of EB110 influence in that. and the door seems like scissors upswing?

i especially love the rear. will look awesome even in 20 years time imo.

From the front, its stunning... from the side and rear - ugly... I guess you need tadpole shaped cars if you are going to go over 250MPH...

I love the thougth of an 18 cyl engine!

Shame they didnt build the Chiron. Its much better looking than both the 110 & the Veyron

My thoughts too but I doubt that it would have been feasible given the cooling load required. In fact it might have ended up looking rather like the Veyron had they added the needed ducts and rads.
