Which is faster?
YOu know neither are italian? haha.. But it does depend on different factors. Lotus Esprit easily hits 180 top speed, z06 cant due to its roofline. Esprit 0-60 current v8 models 4.4's so z06 should be on par with that. Both very good track cars, match them up on the same track it would be very close.
2002 Lotus Espirit V8 0-60 mph: 4.4 sec 0-100 mph: 11.0 sec Quarter Mile: 13.0 sec @ 112 mph Skidpad: .93g Top Speed: 175 mph Braking, 60-0 mph: 125 ft Slalom Speed: 68.3 mph 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 0-60 mph: 4.0 sec 0-100 mph: 9.5 sec Quarter Mile: 12.5 sec @ 115 mph Skidpad: .99g Top Speed: 171 mph Braking, 60-0 mph: 104 ft Slalom Speed: 70.3 mph Figures unchanged for subsequent years. Saw 2005 Commemorative Z06 yesterday - IMHO, the "no-choice" color of blue which doesn't seem to suit 'vettes will unnecessarily slow down sales, though it won't slow the car down.
I would say the Z06 would destroy a v8 esprit on a road course.Tough to beat a Z06 in performance for the money. It's a pretty phenominal track car.
Unlike a$$WAX, i can offer you real world details. The #'s Wax posted are just generic #'s which were taken off an early Esprit V8. In 2000 i believe, they changed their computer program to what was once an option, called the high torque ECU. Later V8's make more power than earlier ones. Not a huge difference, but slight. I have raced my 2000 Esprit against several Z06's. Last race against an 02 Z06 (i know it was an 02 because plate said 02Zo6) ended up being virtualy identical. We raced several times, from 50-60mph, to over 160, and each time whoever got the jump, won.
I also sell Lotus so I have to chime in here. I really love the Esprit, but for the money the Vette is hard to beat. I mean come on, 405hp stock with no realy "achilles heel" transmission. I think that the vette has got to be faster, although I think on the highway the Esprit would be much more formitable. The Esprit will do 187 mph out of the box(after the break in period mind you). The Vette I am not sure, I don't know. I will say this though, one of my clients has an anniversary Esprit that he bought new from me in April of 2003 and has already put over 40k hard miles on it and other than oil changes and some brake stuff it has been bullet proof. And this guy tears the living sh#t out of a car. He is also the guy that I got the top end speed from. Chris
An esprit, with the race Ecu, blow off valves, intercoolers, and turbos, is incredible. Make about 550hp, 3000pds.
Chris, When are we (finally) going to see a modernized bodystyle come from Lotus, away from the nsx look?
Lotus is going to re-release the Esprit sometime in 2006-07. It will be all aluminum with some sort of a twin turbo 6 that is supposed to make 400+ hp. As for the race ECU that everyone is talking about, it makes the car almost undriveable. Getting the rear tires to hook up is a chore. I have a 2000 here on the lot with the GT 350 sport computer and the thing hauls ass but getting it too hook up in first and second gear when the turbo comes on is a chore. I will say though that the car is a blast too drive and for the money a Lotus is very hard to beat. Chris
had no clue the ancient design was still so brutally effective...perhaps the only one that is older and still so good is the evergreen 911. very moddable as well, though some restrictions on the aircooling are in place. Allan, how much power did your drag 930 have?
Well, I got my a** handed to me by a Z06. Granted my esprit is the 2.2l intercooled version with just a couple mods though... I have owned two different C4 vette's both slightly modded, and I just got sick of parking next to all the other vettes out there.
Ancient, not really. Ahead of its time, is why the car is still effective and competitive to this day with many cars.
Hey allan, What exact mods did you do to your 930? Everytime i look at rennlist they get talk about $20k 450 hp conversions? How much did it cost to get 714 hp
It went from a 3.3 to a 3.4 liter, twin plug, Carrera 3.2 Intake, custom headers, exhaust, intercooler, custom cams, heads ported and polished, electromotive tech 2 ignition and engine management. I cant rememeber the size turbo, i think it was a turbonetics T70, or t70 something. I think atfirst i had a T66, then changed it. Its been about 5 years since i had the car. I think it cost me 35,000 way back then. Worth every penny, extremely reliable, INCREDIBLY FAST. WOrds cannot describe.
whyd you sell it!!! so cool, it would DESTROY, by these numbers, anything out there today, even basically any of the modded supra's I know of? wow, wonder where she is today btw, any turbo lag?
I had 2 of them and drove them for many years. Then, i just got over them. Now im getting the bug again. They would destroy anything. No car ever came close, and i raced plenty of high boost single turbo supras, Vipers on nitrous etc. Best part was blowing away bikes.
