YIKES -- even here in California things "feel" like they are getting better. I had hoped most of things would be back to normal by September. I see that they did just cancel Octoberfest as of yesterday. Really unfortunate 8-( https://www.oktoberfest.de/en/magazine/oktoberfest-news/2021/oktoberfest-2021-will-not-take-place Not having Octoberfest would not be a "deal breaker" for me (would have been amazing though).
I am judging at a regional Ferrari Concours on Sunday September 26th...I’d love to ship my car over there forVille d’eteste but I’d have to see all costs involved as my business is still down from Covid...I am in suburban Philly so if we could get discounted rates on shipping and accommodations AND we are allowed to travel abroad I’d seriously consider it...the “X” factor THIS year is Covid...the Ferrari National in Portland for July was just cancelled on Saturday so I’m not sure how the dynamics of Covid could impact European leisure travel for us Americans
Years ago I spent time at the school library. With down time I looked at a few old automobile magazines. Some early 1970's English car rag included a classified section. A dealer had a LM listed for somewhere around 15000 pounds. Maybe less ?
There will be no travel without a corona vaccination. I already got the first Biontech vaccination. Life is coming back, only I had a little crash and now have to mend the front bumper again ... the broken splinter still worries me ... Image Unavailable, Please Login
This is a minor organisational point in the scheme of things, but I understand that the plan is for many breweries to hold mini Oktoberfests in their brew houses and proprietary beer gardens instead. The Oktoberfestbier meanwhile will still be served. No fairground, but perhaps actually nicer than the Theresienwiese where the Fest is usually held. also there are some stunning beer-related locations in Bavaria to stay in on a car tour...and you won’t have to worry about Munich parking.
I think with the pandemic it is very difficult to commit to any dates. Combined with my extremely reluctant employer (when it comes to leave), it's not looking good for me to participate. But I would like to, so I"ll keep tabs.
At the moment we have weekly changes with open or closed shops, restaurants, garden restaurants, ... Changes in shopping with click an meet, then click and collect, then closed, .... In some areas it's forbidden to go out between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., in others between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., in others not and as I said this changes nearly weekly. Bayern is different to Baden Württemberg, is different to Hessen, ....... It seems that they do not know what they do. I think this will be better in autumn, but who knows. Last year they expected that this spring is better, but before XMas it changes to the bad side. Daniel
OMG......did you guys also get this email this morning.....Corso Pilota Classiche...... https://www.ferrari.com/en-EN/auto/officine-classiche?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2021_email_CorsoPilotaClassiche&utm_content=&idm=37b9d8855018c6967e921de12166b85b&ids=5eb6039998764528d6cab20dfb5a8efb1f272bee1526e2fdac38b039f1b34d46 September 14-15 is close to the window discussed in this thread.......
Yeah that came in on the Ferrari app. Not a bad price for such an experience. Are you guys stil contemplating a trip to Maranello? I am planning to drive there this summer with either the 550 or 328. Have yet todo the pilgrimage with one of them. We are about to open up the country again here in Austria on the 19th of May, so there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel. @Bluebottle I recall you noting the replacement car you purchased (Rolls Royce Cornish -- also fantastic). Here in the US.....to Terry's comment....it sure feels like there are "solid values" in the 575 market.
I am afraid not, Terry. I never really fancied the F1 gearbox, so it was always going to be a 550 for me. Yes, I have replaced my 550 with a Corniche (albeit badged a Bentley Continental). Having only two seats restricted the number of times I was able to use the Maranello, and the opportunities to use it on UK roads (or on the continent, apart from one or two in Germany - even Italy has now succumbed to a pandemic of speed cameras) as its makers intended, are few and far between. The Corniche will get more use, having room for daughter and dog, and I shall enjoy driving it without feeling the frustrations of driving a Maranello amid the restrictions of UK traffic and speed cameras - it is the sort of car that enables one to relax and take traffic jams and speed limits in one's stride without one's blood pressure going through the roof. I am sorry to see the back of the 550, but shall retain many happy memories of two of the best cars I have owned - my Dino, and the best affordable front-engined 2-seater Ferrari. Does anyone have an update on the Villa d'Este concours d'elegance 1-3 October this year? The website still says no public days and also no tickets are sold online, but even Italy is opening up now. Surely the organizers must hope to able to invite at least some public? It would make an excellent deadline to get my 456 ready!
I hear it’s invitation only at this stage. Not sure whether they will allow opening to public. I guess they are not sure either, depending on how things go. A lot of events and plans are going to change permanently. Smaller, fewer people, higher ticket price. Business plans are changing. Some great events and plans will go under. Others will adapt. I am driving around Europe right now, and it’s a stress crossing every border, even France to Monaco where I am now, which is normally not a border. Monaco no stand up cocktail type events are allowed. Masks required even outdoors on Casino Square, and enforced. Each country/region makes its own rules and they change each day/week. You need a PCR test/lateral flow test 24/48/72 hours before only if you are/are not vaccinated once/twice with the MRNA/AZ vaccine one/two weeks ago but not more than six/nine months ago, and you can meet in groups of six/30 inside/outside with/without masks. That’s today. Tomorrow is different. Organising any event is a nightmare.
