Grant fronts are not fog lights, they are like the 355, they are daylight main beam flashers to avoid the popup headlights having to lift to flash people, check it out, with headlights off pull back the headlight flash and they'll light up (with ignition on)
Thanks Mark. You are right. What was confusing me, was I am sure i someone driving a 456 with them on at Silverstone a few weeks ago and the hand book is rubbish, when looking at fuses in the book there is one marked for the rear fogs and another marked for fog lights and also see the page below where it also shows a warning light for front fog lights! I think the guy at Silverstone must have by-passed the flash to pass bit and put in a separate switch. Thanks again it has saved me a lot of messing around. I wonder if they work differently in different markets and are actually fog lights? Grant Image Unavailable, Please Login
A. Turned on ignition and started car B. Twisted left stalk one click to turn on parking lights C. Depressed Fog Light rocker switch D. Stepped outside of car and walked to front end E. Observed two large round illuminated lights in grill. ...and thems aint foglights?
They must be different in the UK or maybe Europe for some reason. I have found this now in the hand book [ F], it did not make much sense before but it does now. Thanks for you help guys. Grant Image Unavailable, Please Login
Believe they do vary between markets, as does the 355, not sure if they vary between 456 and 45M as well but less likely.
The only problem I had with the Headlights on my 200 456M GTA was they moved at high speeds from wind buffeting. My 355 doesn't do it but they are much smaller. I was able to clean. lube and adjust the headlight mechanisms and they tightened up somewhat. The lighting on my 575M blow the 456 lights away.
Agree the lights are weak. I keep my round grill lights on (Fog Lights or Driving Lights or Daytime-Flashing Lights?) on at all times. Thinking of going to HID. I'd really like to find a bolt in upgrade to covered projector style but can't see to find anyone that produces them. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yup, the switch and not a tough job. Got the part same as 355, for about $20 + shipping + tax and took all of 15 min. to install.
Hi may I ask u if and how u solved the problem because it happens to 2 days ago too and still not working
Hi Nino. It was one of the relays, I got a new one from Ferrari I think but they were also the same as one from a Saab or Volvo I think, it was 8 years ago and I only had the car for a few mounths so sorry I can't help further. regards Grant
Which car do you have? 456M? 550? 456M: relay "O". 550: relay "P" These "External light" relays also provide power to the dimmer/rheostat for the dash lights.
Nini, is your problem exactly the same as the original poster's problem? Dash lights and external lights? Also, where are you located? USA? Europe?
Relay "O" on the 456M provides power to fuses 13, 14 and 15. Can you check the voltage on these fuses with the lights (and ignition) turned on? If the relay is not putting out any voltage, then you may have a problem with your steering column light switch or relay panel.
If your 550 ever needs a relay just pull the "S" out and use it. "S" relay is for F1 transmission control so it's redundant in a 550,there aren't even any wires connected to it's connectors on the fuse panel.
Relay "O" and "V" are special relays, Dave Also, I think he has a 546M (if he swapped "O" and "V") 456M USA Lighting Wiring diagram here https://www.dropbox.com/t/fLPGqS83Zk1IOW3c (This is linked to a Dropbox account. I don't know if an account or permissions are required. Anyway, it will expire in a week). If that doesn't work, try this one? https://www.dropbox.com/s/jhfgfyoxrex0dbe/Ferrari_456M_lights_USA.gif?dl=0
... sounds like your problem is a little more complicated. I guess you could also remove relay "O" and check for voltage at pin 86 of the relay socket (with the light switch on and the ignition turned on). This should tell you if your light switch is working.
It was in the relays box one pin was loose so i removed the relay box from the car opened and squeezed it carefully with little pliers and reassembled everthing and that was it it Ferrari would have tried to sell me a new relay Box for $10,000.00
I'm sure someone on the forum would sell you a replacement board for less ... https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/oem-fuseboard-456-gt-and-m.630402/#post-147817286 Glad you found the problem (EDIT: I see you already found Guido's post)
Dont mess to much with the relais. Sooner of later the solder points will crack and you need my assistance....
