They came out great. Only used the beef drippings with the batter. I picked up some Kerrygold butter but didn’t use any.
As you well know, if I cooked a steak that rare, my wife would freak the heck out! Looks lovely though. Glad you were at least able to connect with loved ones electronically. Hoping that 2021 sees an end to all this nonsense...T

https://www.growitalian.com/pepper-piccante-calabrese-97-115/ We started Calabrians from seeds. Above URL. We've tried Calabrian peppers for two years now. I will say that the germination rate is decent but not great. 50% if I had to guess. Then from plants to fruit, maybe a similar percentage. That needs to be balanced out by the fact that they've been co-planted with cucuzza squash, which are very vigorous. So, next spring we are planning on adding another raised bed to give the peppers extra room. Also, we started last year to help Mother Nature by hand pollinating flowers on the pepper plants. Next spring, we'll add bee-attracting flowers. Plus, I am trying to over-winter our best performing plants, and I saved & dried some of their seeds. If you want plants, this web site looks interesting... http://www.chileplants.com Have never ordered from them, so no intel. But, wife is ordering me some for an Xmas present once they open up on Jan 1. Fingers crossed, it'll be a good year for peppers! T

Funny, I found the chileplants page before you sent it. Signed up for notification of seeds but maybe should just get a few plants. I grow serranos, jalapenos, thai chiles. I think I want to add some exotics...what else you growing?
Jalapeño are common enough around here. So we'll pick those up local. We had great results with the jalapeño plant we bought at a local farm & ranch store, plus I'm overwintering it as it was a great performer. I am thinking going for more exotic pepper plants from online sources. As of now, my wish list includes... - Serrano - based on your recommendation - Szechwan - I had a good reason for choosing this over Thai a few weeks ago, but now I forgot. Lol. - chiltepin - had great success with these a few years back. Did really well here in Texas when we started from plants - Bulgarian carrot & snow white - their peppers look cool! - Calabrian - seeds have been a bit of a PITA - so want to see how starting from a plant works, but have 2 overwintering and seeds from our best performer as a back up plan - datil - F-chatter Streetsurfer turned me on to these a few years back. They're habanero hot, but with a much more pleasant fruity taste IMO. Chileplants.com requires buying plants in multiples of 6, so the above may expand or contract. I am also looking at pepper seeds from Jung. They don't have a great variety, but we've bought lots of stuff from them over the years and their customer service has been fantastic. Burpee has some interesting seeds. And plants. Still deciding on those, but it's winter and still dreaming of spring planting season! Have you had much luck with starting peppers from seeds? I had great luck with the thai peppers...more than I could use or giveaway. They freeze great whole in a baggie. I just take them out and use like fresh. I've frown Fresno chili with success and they are nice like a jalapeno but diff flavor. Where yat in Texas?...my Dad in Dallas. I haven't done peppers or really much anything from seeds. My son just seeing seed sprouts from winter veggies....bok choy, arugula, green onion, red onion, blue leaf spinach and lettuce, We'll see how that goes!
We're in DFW. Lately, I've been drying our "excess" peppers, then grinding. Makes it convenient to dial in desired heat level for meals. Grew bell peppers from seed this past year. Straight from peppers we bought at Kroger! It was a pandemic experiment. Motivated us to try with hotter types. Spinach/kale does great here, almost all year minus summer hiatus. Lettuce, arugula, mesclun, etc. in cooler times as well. T

My first-ever attempt at Chili is on the simmer at 11am...dinner is at 7pm... A quick taste tells me it will be *spicy*...maybe too spicy... More-or-less followed this recipe that was a conglomeration of posts here... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Had pizza with my brother for lunch yesterday. Five pieces left, taco pizza. Plan to have them for dinner.
