2017 488 with no braking power! Advice this is my first Ferrari! I just purchased a 488 spyder, 12k miles. I had the car serviced at the dealer and asked them to check it out. Also Had them do a brake flush and bleed! The pedal is firm not mushy. Around town driving the car stops ok. At 100+ this car doesn’t stop for crap. Two feet in, no different, almost blasted into a car at the end of an exit ramp because I could stop the car. Terrible terrible, not safe, unlike my Porsche turbo, it’s got bite, no matter how many months the car sits... I have a fair amount experience ~ 35k Mike’s of track time with Porsche. So I think I understand braking ...there something wrong with this machine. Could it be a vacuum leak, brake servo problem or vac filter ? Ideas pls. cant drive the car like this!!
I don't quite understand. What happens over 100 mph? Does the brake pedal go hard and don't respond, or does it just feel like the pads aren't biting at high speed? What's the thickness of your pads? If it feels like the pads are not biting, I wonder if they might be contaminated or have another issue. In that case I think it might be worth getting a set of Pagid RSC1 pads and while the calipers are off, wipe the discs with Isopropyl alcohol. If it's an ESC issue, you could try resetting the car. This is done by using the battery quick release and disconnect the battery for over 10 minutes. Sent from my SM-G930F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Thanks II Co-pilota. The pedal is always firm no softness or compression at any speed. Doesn’t feel as though there is air or leak in brake fluid system. I ran the OBDII code reader on the car: P0299 P02CB U0126 P1F0E I don’t know if these are indicating something vacuum related I look to reset the ESC
Basic stuff: check/bleed (or change) the brake fluid, do a brake bedding procedure. Obviously if any of those codes indicate a brake problem, see where that goes.
Ooooo....Driving over 100 miles an hour?… I’m going to tell your mom Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
If anyone has sprayed tire shine directly on your tires or any other detailing substance that can ruin carbon ceramic brake performance My 488 did not bit real well at higher speeds when i first got it. It had 453 mike's. Normal street driving didn't help either. After harder braking and not 3800 miles it's a lot better. Since you just got a 488 there is no telling how the previous owner used the brakes and cleaned the car.
Indeed, and exactly why I would wipe down the discs and change pads. Yes detailers can cause all sorts of problems, especially ones with silicone, but fresh pads and wiping the discs with 99% Isopropyl can work wonders. Then some serious bedding will finish it off nicely. A set of RSC1 pads aren't exactly free, but it's a lot cheaper to try that approach first than chasing ABS/ESC faults or getting new discs. Can't see the similarity. The 458 issue had brake pedals that went rock hard and allowed no input. Here the brake pedal feels right but there's not enough friction to overcome the inertia at high speed. Two totally different things. Sent from my SM-G930F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I just had my car in for annual service that included a brake flush as well as a test drive by technicians. Did they do a test drive after your dealer service? Nothing mentioned?
He said "two feet on pedal and car won't stop" I have experienced this with my 2014 458 I also have Turbo S and Huracan and never had an experience like this. Went right past an entrance to store...luckily no one was exiting.
Again, go back and reread his reply. The pedal felt firm as per usual, but the car slows down poorly. I only know about the 458 issue where the pedal goes rock solid and don't feel notmal, and don't allow any input at all. Here it sounds like the pedal feels normal, but it takes a lot of force to get it to slow down properly. Did your 458 pedal go solid or feel normal? Mine was solid Hit the brakes and nothing there. My wife was with me and said...what the hell are you doing? I told her I was standing on it and nothing. Owned this car for a year now.....only drove it one more time. Will probably sell soon. Has 860 miles on it and purchased with 565 miles.
I test drove a Pista with the exact same symptoms and it was SO scary! Would not stop from higher freeway speeds. My guess is that the brakes have been cooked and the discs are glazed.
You glaze pads, not discs. This is not a symptom of glazed pads. If the pads lack friction due to glaze, they will show this at all speeds, and all things considered, it will not be dramatic. They will squeal and feel a bit dead. But they will stop you. I'm sure most here know my view on stock discs and pads, but it would not be fair to say that the OE pads on a Pista and 488(same disc and pad) would glaze and cook from overheating. I think me and my fellow track rats @mdrums and @Shadowfax have burned through enough pads to know that they are not prone to severe glazing from excessive heat. If these pads glaze, they glaze because the car is driven slow and easy. That glaze will be burned off if you dova bedding in, and the most annoying part of glazed OE pads is the noise. In short, this is definitely not a problem caused by cooking the brakes. These brakes can fade a bit during longer track sessions, but they come back on when they cool down. Really?...no reason to go there my man. I was simply (obviously) making fun of the fact that were you driving 100 mph. Lord.
You should have thought about what you say first my man! Just so you know I’m (obviously NOT ) making fun.

Ease on down guys. No need to derail this thread with schoolyard antics. Too few hours in the day for that crap. Let's talk some cars and fix some brakes. Upwards and onwards. Sent from my SM-G930F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
