feel bad for the driver but he did what he had to do .. would be terrible to hit someone on a bike .....he will find another if he wants it....
I might agree with that, but two sides to the story. the car passing always has the responsibility for a safe pass. however, this may be an exception the cyclist doing something unpredictable. then you get into if it did it intentional or just an accident. My experience with cars and cycling usually it was the cars being impatient and rushing the pass vs. the cyclist doing anything wrong. It is also one of my common arguments against those that complain about the side by side cyclists vs. single file is that there is absolutely no difference in the spots you would choose for a safe pass whether cyclists side by side or single file. that said, I think cyclists should be single file.
I have ridden tens of thousands of miles in the US and in Europe. I can tell you from experience that drivers in Europe are much better at handling cyclists. I never felt endangered from behind in Europe, though I or riders with me occasionally had near head-ons. In the US, the danger is almost always from behind because there is no standard protocol. Drivers typically hate cyclists and cyclists don't follow a standard protocol. It is a bad formula. In Europe, where cycling is a national passion in many places, there is a lot more respect for people on bikes. Not so much in the US.
I agree. I got hit from behind careless driver wasn't paying attention. I had the right away left hand turn lane, but that exposed me to a stupid driver. I don't even ride on the streets anymore. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Seems like you escaped relatively unscathed. Good for you. Your guardian angel was definitely hovering nearby
You are very lucky. I only ride where there is a ton of room on the shoulder, I dont have a lot of confidence in drivers. I also know that it is mostly my responsibility to keep myself safe so I am not pulling out unless I am 100% certain it is clear. The rider in this case may not have done this but we weren't there so who knows.
yes, bike took most of the force and pushed me forward. had a deviated tailbone that even 12 years later starts getting sore sitting too long like a movie theater. I was so pissed at her insurance that offered me $500 to settle and adjuster said "I'm a motorcycle rider, road rash isn't that bad" I got my lawyer buddy for beer and some Ferrari memorabilia to kick their ass hard! You shouldn't take every single thing serious. I don't know Paulo but I'm pretty sure it was a joke nothing more than that.
Strange damage on the Pista. Hit a curb and the door comes off? If alone in car then why did the passenger side airbags go off? No one got hurt so that's good. One less Pista on the road but don't worry they are making a lot of them.
But it looks like just the skin is missing and the structure still there (passenger side). Front and rear fender still on that side looks good. Also, why does such an expensive car not know there is no one in the passenger seat? Two additional airbags deployed for no purpose. On a Ferrari you'd have to replace the dash panels, door panels, airbags, sensors and ECUs. Crazy cost for missing a simple switch in a seat cushion.
In the US bicyclists are hated. They run in groups and take up complete lanes slowing down traffic until people can eventually get around. Sometimes a single cyclist will take an entire lane as well even when there is an adjacent path. As a rider I am sure to stay out of the way for safety and courtesy but others dont care.
