I'm very close to a 2016 California T and I'm trying to tie up loose ends.
Yeah I know the car is expensive and I'm past that. It's a bucket list thing and it's going to happen.I just want to make as few newbie mistakes as possible.

Can anyone shed light on advice for insurance (obviously I'm going to drive it just once in a while).
I already own a boat so I know I'm purchasing a lifestyle with repairs and upkeep about 4-5 figures/year.
Any advice or specific watch outs would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Depending on your driving record. insurance can be quite reasonable, but make sure to shop around. Here in Mass, I found Geico to be three times less than Liberty Mutual's quote. I'm paying $1200 per year with a multi-car discount and the limits I need to maintain an umbrella -- $250k/$100k/$250k with a $1k deductible. That's with no mileage limits. Interestingly, was only about $200 per year more to insure than my 2015 Audi allroad. That's on a 2015 Cali T.

I was considering a Cali T several years ago and asked my Allstate agent and seem to remember the quote being around $1,600 per year as an additional car.

Our insurance is about $300 per month but so much depends on your location, age, and driving record. We already insure two other cars, and I think that helps. Plus, on off season you can suspend coverage on the F-car if you're not planning to use it.

Just quoted $160/month to add a 2012 Cali to my Geico policy.

    42 M clean driving record.
I pay $90/month for my 2017 Lexus ES

If you can, bundle home, auto and umbrella to save.

Running costs = guestimate ~ 1 - 2 K month all in, insurance, gas, maintenance and repair and such.

Advice? Get off the internet and drive it! Circumstantial evidence is that the more you drive it, the more reliable they seem to be. Check the age of the battery and tires. If they're getting to be a few years old, consider replacing. Many nagging electrical issues, especially with Calis that are not driven routinely, seems to be traceable to the battery. Likewise, the OEM trickle charger is IMO poor. Replace with a CTEK 7020. And, most important of all, part pictures when she arrives!

    Good luck...T

Good advice and the operative word here is suspend. It's a technical term in the insurance world and you are better off going the suspend route rather than cancelling and having to obtain a new policy after each dormant period.

Can you only suspend certain coverages? If, god forbid, during the off season a tree nails the garage or your other car catches fire and totals the Ferrari, or someone steals it, would you still be covered?

These are very important questions to ask when you check out insurance policies. Don't take anyone's word for it. Get it in writing!

So glad I asked. Liberty Mutual a few months ago quoted my $2267 on an Aston Martin Vantage at less than half the purchase price.
62 M. Liberty has 2 other cars, house, umbrella.

I was stunned, frankly, as I had two cars, a house and an umbrella with Liberty Mutual at the time. I ditched the emu for the gecko on everything. ;)

Does anyone know if Allstae, Geico or State Farm include full glass coverage with low priced policies?

I'm using State Farm. Our 2016 Cali T runs us $299/mo for 250/500/250 coverage. We do hold a $2000 deductible however on the car, and it's one of three cars on the policy (not the primary car for any driver). And this is with a wife who just-shy-of-totaled my Quattroporte a couple years ago, so that's still hitting us a bit on the insurance costs.

We moved away from "cheaper" insurance companies like esurance / geico after the Quattroporte incident - it was such a fight over the repairs (which lead to the car being out of commission even longer) that we decided it wasn't worth saving a little money over. But you shouldn't judge things based on a single anecdote obviously.

Interesting! I was with Geico for ~15 years. When I asked about adding the Cali to my policy, last year, they told me that Geico did not insure Ferrari’s. Ended up moving everything to Allstate. Coverage in the Cali is $1600/yr.

Maybe Geico has different rules state to state ... Massachusetts may not allow them to exclude certain cars as they have a pretty tight rein on insurance here.

I had a minor (low mph) accident -- if there is such a thing as "minor" in a Ferrari, needed a new front air dam, headlight and passenger side front quarter panel, not the air bags, no frame work, etc. -- and the process was completely painless with Geico ... the adjuster met with the body shop the dealer works with, cut the BIG check, and that was that. All new factory parts from Italy. It was my fault, too, so no other insurance company involved. My rates did not go up on the next renewal but it was pretty soon after the car was repaired, so I will not be surprised to be surcharged next time around, although I think Massachusetts limits how much they can tag you for.

All great advice. I think I narrowed it down to 3.
The one I really like is in Chicago and I'm in NY. How crazy would it be to buy it sight unseen based on superior stats on the Chicago car?

PPI is a "pre purchase inspection," where you have an independent or dealer look over the car. If the car's being bought from a Ferrari dealer, with a warranty, it's probably fine. If the car's being bought without a warranty from an independent dealer, it's wise to have it inspected by another shop, looking for undisclosed issues, damage that might not appear on the Carfax, etc.

You might also see if there's someone on here near the car who might be kind enough to look it over for you in person.

I thought the 7 year warranty followed the car no matter where it was purchased from?
So when would it be important to have a different dealer check over the car? To me that are all Ferrari dealers.
