My good friend and fellow Ellena owner - owns car 0835GT - 57 Ellena He has a later 250GT engine installed in it - and it seems to have been that way for a long time per his research. With his permission, i said i would post the request on F-Chat - considering the Vintage Ferrari and international coverage of the web site. Here is his info he sent to me - compliments from some years back from Marcel. "0835 GT was originally sold new thru official Ferrari dealer Garage De Montchoisy SA in Geneva, Switzerland. In about 1970 Dutch dealer Rob de la Rive Box, resident in Villmergen, Switzerland, bought it from an unknown Swiss owner." "I have original sales paperwork from Rob Box showing the sale of my car with a used engine installed. So it seems reasonable to assume that my engine was removed in Switzerland." Any info, leads and stories as to the whereabouts of engine 0835 GT would be greatly appreciated.
Might be worth to try Robert Fehlmann in Switzerland - [email protected] He is not only specialist on vintage ferraris but beside some SWBs and Lussos owns a Boano or Elena. In addition he knew Rob de la Rive quiet well and as far as I know bought all his remaining stock a long time ago. Wish you luck in finding it. Please keep us updated. Christopher
No. Robert, who is a friend of mine (and we speak regularly), owns 0833 GT but not 0835 GT. I know all the engines that he has. He does not have engine 0835 GT. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was thinking that - ref our past discussion with car 0833. Anyhow - is Rob de la Rive Box still around?
This photo was taken during the 1972 BFOCS UK event in Prescott and at Sir Anthony Bamford's home. On the very left, the man in the grey suit and red tie is Robert de la Rive Box, a Dutch car dealer resident in Switzerland. who brokered many classic Ferraris (and other rare cars) from the 1960s to the 1990s. Was just thinking that Robert may have an idea about the engine, not that the actual engine is with him. Could be worth a try to ask him?
I know very exactly where the original engine is right now and have communicated with Ed directly. Marcel Massini
While it's great to hear/read the existence of the cars missing engine, I’m just (mildly) curious if there‘s potential for a “pot of gold” at the end of the rainbow or ... ?
Im waiting to see pics/evidence of the block and the number.....the availability is a little difficult due to the physical location and the virus situation Once we have solid confirmation then we can take this and discuss the next step - if it is at all possible. This will probably take a while :-(.....but im on it
WOW - i never seen a factory invoice for an early ferrari like this - this is a real treat to see Thank you Marcel for the info..... Calculation of the lira rate back in 58 was 625 L = 1US$ so that said if i got it right - is 4000.00 US $ I paid that much for a used radiator and louver system for my Ellena!
Please let us know the story after making sure that Ed has secured it. Sounds very interesting and makes me curious. Thanks Christopher
The owner of 0835 GT (the car) is not the OP. It is a matter of the current owner if he wants to buy the matching block or not. Marcel Massini
See first post ref the start of this quest. I am in regular contact with the owner of 0835 due to our common interest in the Ellena. I will continue to pursue this for him as he does not have alot of free time, and my passion about these particular cars allows me to assist. It is my only intention to try to find and reunite the block with the car......it would be the right thing for alot of reasons, but it may also may not happen for other reasons. SO, as i said , it may take a while and we will see, but we have good people with Marcel and Robert helping.
