Hum... I'm wondering if Toto would feel motivated in such job or if he has useful experience to be the CEO of a big automotive company. One thing is to run a racing team, it's adrenaline mixed with great technical challenges. Managing a car company? It might pay well, it might be glomorous, but I think for someone involved in racing it is a hell of a boring job. By the way, who remembers Stefano Domenicali?
Wolff buys shares in Aston Martin https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/wolff-buys-shares-in-aston-martin/4782007/
Aston Martin being a public limited company, there is no need to be a shareholder to peruse over their accounts. That's usually the first reason why some people want to have a few shares. Depending on the statute, but it maybe that capital increase is offered first to existing shareholders. So 1% may prove to be valuable in future ...
From the link Such an investment would seem unusual considering his role at Mercedes, and given that Aston Martin is primary sponsor of F1 rival Red Bull Racing, but the German car manufacturer’s parent company Daimler is a long term shareholder in Aston Martin, so there is no conflict of interest.
That would be a job for the FIA, but following the "Ferrari deal" scandal, they may chose to close their eyes on that.
Strong evience to a Mercedes post-2021 exit that. Toto to move to Stroll GP and bring some team members with him. Stroll/aston can't afford 1600 staff. No more massive dominance. Happy days.
Closer to $50 million USD. Not sure how they came up with the valuation of that company... https://www.essentiallysports.com/f1-news-amid-rumours-toto-wolff-takes-on-a-new-role-at-aston-martin/amp/
Aston Martin Lagonda holding shares are quoted on London stock exchange so that's how the valuation is made I guess.
Right, but I don't think their market cap is anywhere near $5 billion, which is what his 1% @ $50 million would make it.
must have used a b&w photocopier and handed it to lance to colour it in no other two cars have ever looked so alike each other
Bloody expensive way to get an Aston Martin! I would have thought going to your local dealer would be cheaper! Totto is no fool, so what does he know that the rest of the stock market doesn't?
I think Wolff knows that F1's days are over and he's leaving at the top of his game. I don't think there is any point in him taking over Racing Point...that would be whipping a dead horse in a dead sport. Heading Aston Martin is a nice job with lots of money for retirement, and a way to enter Mercedes management...or any other car company looking for a star in the CEO chair. In reality, he already has enough money to never have to work another day in his life and have a very comfortable existence for the rest of his days. Everything else at this point is whipped cream and cherries.
A scenario plausible. I think he stays with Mercedes. There is diverse opportunity for him. Formula E etc. I do not see Mercedes buying Aston. They simply do not need it. I do not see Wolff as a 'boutique' operation CEO. He could be friends with Stroll but working for someone is quite different no?
Some say that the 1979 Tyrrell was made copying a plastic scale model of the Lotus 79. Probably urban legend, but they were very similar.
