Pulled out steaks and a 2.5lb brisket to thaw out. Will probably throw the brisket on Sunday or Monday. It will be my first attempt at smoking.

What smoker are you using? What kind of wood? Oak is my favorite.

2.5 lb? Is this just a flat?

Had fun in the kitchen tonight. Baked some potatoes and then did some Filets in the cast iron. Then made a quick sauce with whatever I could find in the fridge; some mushrooms, a bit of Irish Whiskey to deglaze, rosemary from the garden, butter, stone ground mustard and finally a dollop of mascarpone. I have to say the sauce was really surprisingly good! Its sounds weird, but came out way better than it sounds. Drank a Bordeaux with the meal.

Yummy. Experimental night at the ranch. Saw kohlrabi, the last time I was at Kroger. What the heck! Raw, it tastes kind of like a cross between a tater and an apple, so I made a hash with red onions, S&P and ginger garlic paste. Not bad.

Tomorrow night's supper. Chili made from chuck roast. About 5 or 6 more hours to go. Needs a tad more liquid.

I'm avoiding Costco, its a zoo. I'm trying to support local restaurants. But closures are making that difficult. I did a shop for my parents last night, did a co op store. It wasn't too busy, I think I'll stock up there.

they aren't staying open for take out? I've started getting emails from restaurants in all my old cities with their "hey stop on by and get our XXX dinner tonight for your family". Its their attempt to stay in business. Today is the first day of restaurant closures here in London, I think most are offering take out.

Ania got a night free from work, so she wanted to cook. Its a rare night when I get to browse F-chat and quaff vino while she cooks for me :)

    She made:

    - Baked Cod with a breadcrumb, orange zest, garlic and dill topping (the cod we get here is so fresh and good, and I don't even like fish)
    - Roasted Broccolini (meh, obligatory veggie)
    - Roasted Hasselback Potatoes (I'd never heard of them)

She did a great job. Very nice meal that we enjoyed with an above average Chablis Premier Cru by Fevre.

I went in and took some pics along the way....so pardon all the pics and bragging on my lady :D

I guess a few restaurants here decided to just close. Mostly Japanese. Making Kirkland premade burger patties tonight.

I’m working evenings this week. Wife made skillet ribeyes. Had a side salad for me, potatoes and green beans for my wife and my baby (he’s 22). I made brandy cream sauce for them. 8 min total 1/side x 4 (6 min total for mine) soooooo I have them rest the steaks on my plate for the juice.

Exactly..is Costco cutting 'em thicker nowadays?

NbyNW - how thick would say those were?

Oh, and I have to applaud the double down of hot dogs and steaks...I've never thought of that combo...inspiring!
