I don't know much about the UK exotic and classic car market, but interesting to me the overlap and similarities between these dealerships. All seem to specialize in almost the same type of stock and all have son's taking on or taking off the family business.

User wise Carl Hartley registered last year, Tom Hartley Jr. is an active lurker no posts, and DK has several users (James Cottingham pretty active).

I'm just curious in this landscape and what other similar dealers are out there. If any of these dealers or other close competitors are interested in our sponsorship programs at FerrariChat, please submit the Contact Us at the bottom! :)

I’ve been wondering about this too, as I get a lot of British magazines and follow historic racing and concours in the UK quite closely. The Cottinghams have been around for a long time, but is there some sort of rift between the Hartleys, or is that just marketing? The other old name....Duncan Hamilton.....what is ROFGO and what is its relationship to Hamilton?

ROFGO is Roland Goethe, he was initially a customer of Adrian Hamilton (son of Le Mans winner Duncan Hamilton and founder of the car business that bore his name).
    https://howtospendit.ft.com/vehicles/110511-gulf-racing-cars
Goethe has a specific interest in Gulf liveried cars and appears to now be a major backer/partner of Adrian Hamilton (hopefully it remains a harmonoius relationship and not one that takes the Mike Tuke/Derek Hood of JD Classics turn...

JD Classics still operate under the banner of Woodham Mortimer (https://woodham-mortimer.com/) with many of the same staff (Hood excluded).

The Hartley's position has been documented by themselves on various platforms but now all seem amicable.

I guess https://girardo.com/ could be thrown in to the mix, and Max has competed in the Mille Miglia with Hartley Jnr.
Max was obvioulsy the face of RM Auctions for years.
Kidston the frontman for the Brooks/Bonhams auction house prior to going his own way.

https://www.dylan-miles.com/ Dylan Miles is also a previous employee of RM Auctions.

All of these, including DK Engineering have built up relationships over the years with all of the big players in the classic and high end performance cars as well as the major auction houses and restoration facilities.

    Thank you, Paul.

There are a lot of good stories....and not a little intrigue (JD).....among those dealers. Max was one of the most entertaining auctioneers ever. RM has certainly not been able to adequately replace him, in my opinion, the Porsche Typ 64 debacle being a demonstration of that. One wonders how Max would have handled the situation.....certainly with more aplomb.

With respect to your How To Spend It link, I receive the FT weekend edition, but they no longer include HTSI to U.S. subscribers.

You may want to add Fiskens, Gregor Fisken in London, as well.
Plus Martin Chisholm of The Classic Motor Hub.
    And Bob Houghton.
And Mike Wheeler of Rardley Motors (Gerard and Dudley Mason-Styrron).
    Plus Joe Macari.
    And William Loughran.
    Plus GTO Engineering.

As for Kidston and Girardo, to the best of my knowledge, they both have a Swiss passport.
Girardo's backer is French but resident in Portugal.

    I wouldn't trust Foskers…!

As top the above companies, they all seem to have their area of expertise/market place.

I certainly wouldn’t recommend Tom Hartley (snr)

After complaining about the issues I had on my supposed immaculate FF less than 6 weeks after buying it, I got my many, many phone calls and emails ignored. When I did finally get the attention of one of the directors there I got this message....

also he then carried on to threaten to send people round to my house, and also broke GDPR rules to get my address... avoid at all costs!

Funnily enough George I was going to point this thread in the direction of your posts on PH in regard to this operation.
Your experiences have certainly ensured I'll look elsewhere.

I've only met Tom Hartley once, briefly, and never done business with him. But at least he has worked to build up his business. Carl, I have never met, but has had it all handed to him and everything I hear from or of him he sounds like an absolute *******!!!
