Glad you made it back OK. So stealth! I thought for sure that FChatters would be stationed along I-10 in case of a Lucas or Stromberg attack but you fooled us with that nice trailer. I believe I would have been reluctant to drive an unknown car that distance, too.
Nah, I just had the ball joints, bushings, rear shocks, and timing belt done. For now, nothing but cosmetics. Besides, the best racer road in Houston is two blocks out my garage door. Daybreak Sunday morning before it gets hot is prime time.
Looks kind of weird, but my guess is they are acting as a human wall to reduce or eliminate wind noise while filming. D
Took a short drive today. I'm glad I had a mechanic go through the undercarriage. There's enough going on without having to worry about bits and pieces coming loose. Car runs great. It reminds me of the Triumph motorcycles I used to restore. Unlike modern cars, the car has its limitations. If you stay within the limitations, you'll do fine. But, if you try to force the car, things can get interesting. The original owner babied the car, rarely going past 4,000 rpm. Maybe this is why it runs so well for having 150k on the clock. With a few minor exceptions, like the gas gauge, everything works, car fires first time every time. So far, plan is to do cosmetic items particularly the interior. I gotta admit it fits my sense of quirkiness. With only one other J-H in an area of seven million people, my car is far rarer than any Ferrari. Most common gas station comment, besides WTF, is that it is an Alfa.
I still remember when the Jensen Healy won the Car and Driver mega-convertible comparison test back in the early 1970s... beating out the Fiat Spyder, Alfa Spider, MGB, various Triumphs, Cadillac, etc.
Here you go, Dale... you need to buy this! https://www.amazon.com/Driver-Magazine-Topless-comparison-test-Convertibles/dp/B0044SYU1E
One of the things I like about this car is it is fun. It is a cool car, but it will never be collectible or particularly valuable. I don't have to worry about being a "caretaker." I can make changes to the car without people getting bent out of shape. I can just drive it and enjoy it. I'm make a few changes here and there, e.g., steering wheel, seats, and so on. I need to get the wheels cleaned up, but it's not a priority. Don't get me wrong. It is possible to sink a ton of money into this car, but I'm not. For now, I'm just enjoying riding around in my automobile. Riding along in my automobile My baby beside me at the wheel I stole a kiss at the turn of a mile My curiosity runnin' wild Crusin' and playin' the radio With no particular place to go
