I'd like to take my family (5) on vacation to somewhere in the Caribbean or in that geographic location. Looking for a top notch 5 star resort. Which Island would you recommend. Already been to Atlantis and Turks & Caicos. Other suggestions, PHOTOS and recommendations would be a HUGE help, please. Thank you in advance.
Atlantis and Turks would have been my top two recommendations. Beyond those you may want to look at Aruba or Grand Cayman, but there tends to be much less for the kids there.
I use LuxuryRetreat (https://m.luxuryretreats.com/vacation-rentals/caribbean/). Not resorts but you definitely can have private chefs and get local concierge service through the company. Privacy is guaranteed and my family definitely enjoys all the trips we’ve taken through LR. It’s great because you get the property all to yourself. Having lived in Puerto Rico for 9 years, I'd normally suggest that, but I'm not sure how healthy the tourism economy is after the hurricane. At least you don't have to worry about visas or changing money.
For the family I’d do altantis again, we had the suites next to the bridge suite. They connect. Lots of excursions you can schedule out of the resort. Going the other way the Westin in Maui is a favorite family vacation spot. Third option would be a cruise.
I have a place in St Thomas, USVI, it's not the most kid friendly place but there are kids, someone said Atlantis in Bahamas, that's not a bad recommendation, Turks & Caicos I like parrot cay. They might enjoy the BVI's, it's really easy to do a tour of the USVI and the BVI's, boats go to/from all the time, the ferry from St Thomas (out of red hook) to St John leaves about every hour.
Anguilla! We go there with the Family(14) every year. Great Beaches and Restaurants. Very quiet, but beautiful. Going on Thursday. Can't wait!!!! Joe
I love the SilverSea cruises. Smaller ships with smaller drafts can get into all sorts of unique harbors. The first class service can't be beat, and you get discover a new island every day. Matt
Not really. If you prefer people drinking alcohol in the hot tub without ever visiting a bathroom, go Carnival. I have a teen son and we’ve being doing SilverSea for years and there are usually kids his age around. Not a lot, but enough. Matt
When we travel on Silver Sea, we find a lot of Brits that are heavy drinkers. They say they use Silver Sea because of the free Drinks. Joe
Just got back from a week on Anguilla and a week on St Martin. The two main differences are islands that don't have a cruise port and ones that do. We prefer the islands without cruise ports: St John, Anguilla, Turks (Provo) Islands with cruise ports generally have a lot more going on (to cater to cruisers) though. Which would appeal to kids. St Martin, St Thomas, Caymans, We always spend at least a week but always rent a villa/condo, so I can't recommend a high end resort.
1+ on Anguilla or St. Lucia other, we stay in Marigot Bay its a bit of ways from the airport but worth it. Island has enough for all ages, but a bit of ways from getting from one spot to the other though.
Anguilla is becoming our top choice. Unfortunately the travel there is a pain. I guess flying from Los Angeles, We have to stay in Florida over night and catch a flight out of Miami in the morning. BTW, anyone have a 1st class travel agent that works with the whole Caribbean/Bahamas?
Its fine, spent Xmas week there in Rincon. Great time. Would never know they had a hurricane.....The MSM has an agenda.
I've gotten the impression from P.R. Tourism that all of the tourist areas have recovered completely.
Four Seasons in Nevis. I’ve been there multiple times and my wife and I love it. If you want to go the cruise route I just got back from a Caribbean cruise on Seabourn that was really top notch. We started in Barbados and ended in St. Martin and it was great.
I’m literally at the Park Hyatt on St Kitts right now. Lovely island. Stunning really. Carambola and Marshall’s were good restaurants with a good view. Also went to a place called The Pavilion. It’s like something out of a bond film. Totally stunning. We didn’t make it make it over to Nevis (despite being meer miles away. Like all Caribbean vacations the service can leave something to be desired. They move.....at their own pace
