I have an intermittent problem with the Driving Mode Switch Failure logo appearing on the instrument panel. I did a search and there seem to be not much about it, and pretty old posts. When the symbol appears the little lights on the switch area are out and the horn does not work. When the symbol goes away, everything works normally. I'm not against taking it to the local Ferrari service place but don't want to if there is a DIY fix. Any help would be appreciated.
No idea what would be but my guess is the clockspring has issues behind the steering wheel. Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
If you're proficient you can remove the steering wheel and check for loose cables and/or a wire that might be disengaging before you bring it in to Ferrari Service. If you ask us "how do you do that?" ... bring it in to Ferrari Service.
Mine was a wheel bearing right front. Did the easy cheap DIY stuff first then but the light was still going off and on. Check and secure ABS connection, cleaned, then replaced. Did as Curt mentioned as well checking wiring there. Mechanic replaced the wheel bearing and the light has been off since. My horn was functional the entire time and the driving mode light was stuck in rain/wet/ice during error time. Because of that, I do suspect you have a loose cable as your horn and light did not work.
I just finished taking the steering wheel off and checked connections. All looked good. I did not remove the clock spring but did check the connections there too. All looked good. The horn wires do come from the mode switch box. I'm starting to wonder if I'm losing power to the switch box? Is there a wiring diagram for the switch anywhere? Besides the dealership - LOL
UPDATE: Fixed! Bwtyler85 had it right. Thanks. The problem has been taken care of by Eurocar-Werk in Houston. The clock-spring was replaced.
Hi Bill & everyone, I now have this driving mode switch fault symbol popping up once in a while. I'm thinking I too have the clock-spring going bad. I checked my Workshop Manual, it covers how to safely disable & remove the air bag but it doesn't really go into detail on how to properly & safely remove the center of steering wheel so I can check / replace the clock-spring. Can you or someone kindly tell me please how to properly remove the center of steering wheel? Do I just simply pull it towards me and not worry about breaking anything? Many thanks in advance. Dan
