    May buy one that needs some work, anticipating I'll need someone to fix it up (mechanical, interior, maybe body work/paint).

    I'm in Scottsdale, so ideally close to there...

    My recommendation is to buy the best one you can afford that doesn’t need restoration. 964’s and 993’s are still available for reasonable money ($50-$60K) that are really original and well documented. You’ll be going down a rabbit’s hole if you buy a bad one.

    I can't believe I'm giving into this cheap answer.

    If it's a 964 and you want a restorer in CA, I'd recommend a little place called Singer.

    I did it. Maybe it plants the seed. :)
