I've got a car with pretty bad water spots. I see all these clips on youtube. I see all kinds of products for sale. Can anyone recommend something they've had good experience with?

I agree with previous post. Use a clay bar. You can buy a kit very cheap on amazon. Even if your car isn't an exotic car, it is worth it.
Window cleaners aimed at removing mineral deposit spotting include some acetone and work quite well on glass. I've only done small areas of paint water spotting, aside from the glass, but noticed no ill effects. Use at your own risk os see if the label approves of use on paint. Vinegar/distilled water solution (50/50) could work too.
Careful with acetone....use only on untreated glass. I have had luck with Chemical Guys products. Just started using this year. They have a few paint and glass detailing products with various levels of “cutting” power. They also sell different polishing pads to use with a random action polisher. Watch their videos. They explain which compound to pair with which polishing pad to get the proper effect. I have used their V36 polish with an Orange Hex pad on my 308 QV and it removed some fine scratch and water spots perfectly. No over cutting. I then used the V38 with a Black Hex pad on the glass. Poor boys make certain polishes that can be used in sun or shade,(white diamond or black hole) one for lighter colored cars, one for dark. They are easy to use and work well. I always have both it my cabinet,
If it's not a show car, I have had good luck with Maguires cleaner wax followed by Maguires Gold Class liquid wax. Both applied and removed with an orbital buffer. It has always done the trick for me.
