Oh c'mon Dr Tommy, you know the Magnum spec GTB - It's right up there with the Magnum spec Porsche 928!
New article on Gilles car in Monaco... https://www.carscoops.com/2018/03/gilles-villeneuves-ferrari-308-will-auction-monaco/
I suppose. I guess I just don't understand the attraction of his bonsai run. I think I'm too focused on all his other racing accomplishments. Then again, if people are willing to pay crazy money for a Steve McQueen car this Gilles 308 makes more sense.
This can fall under the same category as people paying top dollar for an original, but derelict automobile. Some people will pay for the Gilles Villeneuve pedigree. Even if in the end, it's still just a 308GTS....like mine.
Paul Newman's Rolex Daytona Sold For $17.8 Million. $800,000 At Auction For An Heuer Monaco Watch Worn By Steve McQueen
The Newman watch also came to mind when I though about GV's 308. Again....something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If I had some serious disposable coin....and enough insanity, I would be a contender for the Villeneuve car.
How do we know - with 100% certainty - he wore THAT watch? One of the reasons I never buy an autographed anything unless the person is signing it in front of me. But that is just me.
Michael Schumacher sat in my 208 turbo! (the fun thing is that it's true, but I haven't any evidence!) Unfortunately I never was a Schumacher supporter ciao
this said, let's try to guess how much the GV 308 will be sold for. I say 300 k Euro all included ciao
You are correct. There are many photos of Newman wearing a Rolex Daytona, but...is that the actual one from the auction?
Well looking at the prices of the above watches ...i would hope a bit more ,just need 2 peeps fighting it out. i guess it will go into some car collection to reappear in 20 yrs time which is a pity really. I guess Ferrari do not want to buy it back ,otherwise it would not be on sale again now.

Thanks for sharing. Good price for both and a great piece of history. Hope the car will stay in Italy: any Idea of the buyer? ciao
I've been watching the live feed all morning. No indication of who the the buyers are. Very fast paced, one lot after the other. They don't interview the successful bidder like they do at other live auctions such as Barrett Jackson. Ferrari prices have been good in all vintages
Personally, I think that's cheap given the provenance and sheer beauty of this car. The purchaser made a very good investment. Let's see how it's valued 10 years from now.
It is probably a million or two less than the next cheapest ex Villeneuve Ferrari... I'd love to have that car if I was a serious collector (and I would overlook the fact that my car has seats in better condition )
