http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/navy-acknowledges-aircrew-drew-a-penis-in-the-sky-over-washington/article/2641024 I didn't see this posted here here yet, but it's worth sharing. This is actually hilarious. I'll refrain from making any Navy jokes though. I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time...
They were in a MOA. Just maneuvering. Purely coincidental. Can't believe some people were actually upset. Geez, avert your eyes.
Everybody has there mind in the gutter these days.. Looks to me like they flew a figure 8 into an oval nothing to see here
The Navy's response: "The Navy holds its aircrew to the highest standards and we find this absolutely unacceptable, of zero training value and we are holding the crew accountable,” Navy officials said in a statement." I would argue the no training value part. Perhaps they were just doing instrument maneuvers. I'm sure you could figure out a series of vertical S's that would give you that shape. In fact, I distinctly recall in pilot training that one could plan a T-6 MOA instrument profile in the simulator that would result in a profile view (as opposed to what I guess is a plan view seen here) on the sim control console.
Ahh, my Navy brothers..... Maybe they thought they were machinist mates. You know, just a couple of nuts hanging next to a shaft.
