I hope there is no confrontation, but I was given a verbal estimate of around $5k by the mechanic, but this was for just the 30k mile service so at least I have a basis to compare the extras that were completed other than the service. No written estimate was given to me which at this point i think is to my advantage if the bill doesn't make sense. At least according to my neighbor that used to own a Ford dealership. I'll gladly pay what is fair and correct. But I do realize every car repair on a 27 year old car is different. One of the previous posts mentioned niave by not getting a written estimate up front. I agree. I made a mistake. The information from everyone posting is helpful and very appreciative. I'll make sure to post the outcome and maybe this experience and post can be help for other new-to-Ferrari owners when getting a service. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Curious to see how this ends up. I am taking my NSX in for a belt service this week to a shop I have never used. Matter of fact, it has been a long time since any of my cars have been to a shop, so I a bit anxious also. Just too hot and busy this summer for a DIY. My estimate was $1200 for belt and water pump. Seems so cheap after owning a 355 for a few years!
Wow. If that is an Acura dealer that is awesome. My NSX timing belt service was around $2K. And that was 2004.
Dave's experience and listing is what's included in what I called a "30K service." back in the days of my shop. I think it varies widely between shops, but I quoted 40 hours, plus parts and fluids. I would be concerned with the length of time and the lack of clear communications, on this one.
One thing about flat rate times, they are for a perfect world. Times are for R&R clean new parts with no associated issues. Broken parts, stripped threads, frozen bolts, cracked fuel lines, diagnostics all add to the time. Time has a value, you pay or go somewhere else. Then were back to you get what you pay for. I recon in the 30-40 hour time frame with no major issues
As already said, parts are around 1500 and fluids 250. Then add margin for the shop, and it is 2000 usd. Normal service around 30 hours, but more if it isn't a specialist, so say 40 hours. 150 usd hourly rate? (If it is a normal service. If things have to be repaired along the way, more of course) So expect a minimum of 8000 usd. Be sure to get a detailed description of all labour, like degreeing cams etc. Not just the total of hours.
In my opinion 40 hours labor + parts is fair. The big variable is what you pay per hour for labor, and how much your parts cost.
