+1 Stooge award for the ghetto exhaust system. Wonder what it sounds like though? It's the green machine. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The issues listed SEEM to be "easily" remedied. Seller mentions O2 sensor, and coolant temp sensor. Those are easy enough to change, especially if you take it to a Stooge-BBQ. May even wanna change out the t-stat while you are doing the coolant temp sensor. The clutch slipping sounds like it needs the flywheel repacked, and you'll need to get the clutch relined. May even wanna put in the Hill Engineering throwout bearing while you are in there. The one thing I'm wondering is the milage. One report has 53k and two weeks later 103K on the clock??? Wonder what the story is with that? If someone in Cali buys it, and needs a stock dual can "anchor" muffler to pass smog, I have one. If it needs cats, those can get recored. Put it back to it's original color, and you should have a decent driver.
We literally road those things until the wheels where ground down. I seem to remember the Great Machines being faster than Big Wheels.
Green Machines are still around. Here I am in the middle of a Green Machine mini autocross competition during an SCCA Tour in Washington DC. I placed in the top 5 if I remember correctly. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Exactly Strip out the interior and add a cage and Sparco seats w/harnesses. Take out the front fog lights and convert to front brake cooling ducts. Replace 348 wheels with lightweight Challenge wheels painted white. Add some white stripes (to match wheels) over top of car and flare out towards front bumper to break up the green. Remove a/c and strip out any other dead weight. Add a bunch of racing decals to look "cool" and break up green further. Setup suspension and brakes properly and perform basic maintenance/repairs. Add tow hooks and extinguisher. Add a Challenge silencer (the small one that's basically unmuffled). Add "348 Challenge" script on back deck lid to drive the purists nuts. Good to go.
The electric aerial on My 348 was mounted at the base of the left hand buttress at sometime in the past: Image Unavailable, Please Login
If the drive line is good, throw a wrap on it, service it then beat the crap out of it. I personally would drive it as it is., maybe throw in a lawn chair as the drivers seat. A rat rod Ferrari would be cool.
I've seen this car sell 3-4 times in the last few years for mid $20k. I'm surprised more people haven't said they've seen it, the color is hairdo forget. If sure it's been talked about on here before too. But yes it has historically sold for that in the past.
I immediately remembered it being in Vegas and it sold while I was looking for a 348. There has to be something else wrong with the car if it has a fresh belt service and only missing an exhaust system. The few CELs and exhaust issues could be a few hours worth of work. The multiple owners over a few short years tells me something else is wrong.
It does look very nice in grigio. Although, there's something to be said for giallo too. All the best, Andrew.
I actually saw it parked in Las Vegas a couple three years ago. Couldn't miss it in the parking lot. I was in a taxi so didn't get a chance to get up close to it--but you could see it from the strip parked in a neighboring parking lot among all of the silver/white/black sedans and SUVs.
I actually think the worst part about the way it looks are the black wheels. I can't stand that stuff...
I think it looks great! Why do muscle cars, old Porsches and modern Lamborghinis get a pass on bright green, but not Ferrari? I remember this from back in the day. Lifted this pic from runvsphotos.com. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I wouldn't drive a car that color green no matter what the marque, so I don't think it's that people are squeamish about it being specifically on a Ferrari. It's just personal preference - some folk will like it and some won't. All the best, Andrew.
The green isn't the issue for me, its the condition. Someone will snap this up eventually (for better or worse)
Which Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtle specced that?! All the best, Andrew. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
