Did the tail lights on the TR come from another car? IMHO those lights are the only part of the TR that doesn't flow well with Pininfarina's overall design.

I know my cars but I just can't place them...driving me crazy.

until now I know no other car where those taillights could match.
but would be glad to know because then they would be much cheaper :)

What other shape would you like them to be?

IMHO, they look better than the ones on the late 512M.

I believe the name Ferrari is on the light housing itself. It's not someone elses name.

I agree that the round lights on the 512M are ugly. I've never really expressed any preference or disatissfaction with the TR tail lights. I think they go with the car very well.

No, actually the lamps were made by Carello, an Italian manufacturer for Ferrari. No Ferrari markings on the housing or lenses (at least on my 88.5). Carello made (still make?) lights for many european cars.

I have browsed the internet and eBay for 2+ years looking for a similar application and have not seen the Testarossa lights on any other cars (except a few Fiero's :) ). There are several Fiats and maybe Alfa with similar type lights but in a different size/configuration, probably also made by Carello.

Like many my interest is for the white plastic light bulb holders (not the lenses or housing) and I have to this day not found these bulb holders on any other vehicle. Not even sure if Carello made the holders/harness or just the lenses/housings.

I think the light's division lines not lining up was on purpose, giving it enough Italian flair so as not to look too generic and corporate. I also like the 512M's lights, even if they look like a bit of an afterthought.

Furthermore (and I'm no expert here....), I've always thought that the slats covering the lights were intended to be the focal point, rather than the division of the lights themselves.

That, and there may be some technical reason for the division (certain wattage required by law, necessitating specific sized bulbs, etc. Remember, long before LED lighting....)

    Just a thought....

Pininfarina designed and patented the slats on the rear lights as they also helped to keep the lenses cleaner :)

    It's cool being a Ferrari nerd !!

Tim - I believe Verell was making these @ Unobtanium Supply. There was a thread here a while ago. Kerry Wittig here found some NOS and sent one to him for pulling a mold.

I believe the same taillights were used by Peugot sedan that was imported to USA.
I am not certain but they look similar.

Mercedes, on the aerodynamics of channeling water away from the lights.

They used to advertise it years (decades) ago.

But that was molded into the tail lights, not a metal grid above them.

Anyway - the astonishing thing (in 1985) about the Testarossa was how square it was. I think it deserves square tail lights and proper folding headlights.

My adopted cat hates the round tail lights.

Thanks Curtis, I was aware but Kerry had some issues with the reproductions from Verell, I have not tried them yet. I have two broken/glued, I'll just remove the grill and lens if I ever need to change a bulb.

Good point...never thought about it that way.

Thanks for all the replies...looks like Carello made these especially for Ferrari.

You're probably referring to the Peugeot 505. If you look on the web you'll see that the tail lights have a similar overall shape, although rounded in the corners, but definitely not the same color positioning.

They are still available. In the picture below, the ones on the left are reproductions color matched to the original part, the ones on the right are a pair of custom ordered white ones.

To order, see post #65 of this thread:
