It really doesn't. It's a pretty steep hill. That new center cut-off road will really have some climb to it. Nothing like the picture. It's almost 50ft in 100ft.
I've been out to the site too and it is quite a drop. Looking forward to being on track out there some day.
I am as well. The group seems real good and well motivated. I hope all goes well for them. Having a track like this close will be nice for my family to become more track oriented. Hoping we can Kart out there as well. Renting the big track for a day would be a great time with my kids.
Thought you might be interested in the progress. We will be having a charity event first week in December, raise your hand if you are interested in participating. It will not be a "race". Controlled driving at speed, we are raising money for two local charities. enjoy [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jm6DKGE1Kfw[/ame] RP
That's pretty cool! I take it that they'll be removing more of the trees? Especially the ones at 2:16 (left side) and 2:18 (right side). I can only imagine plowing into one of those at about 100mph! ;-) Mike
I like the elevation changes, especially the corkscrew. That looks TIGHT! Does any know how wide the road surface is?
Here's another video. In a Z06 / LS7. I think he may have been practicing. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-u5xmS6nL8I I think my ratty GT6 will be there as a rolling barrier for the charity event. No Ferrari yet. sigh. The 996 is still waiting for tranny parts. Question from friend: You can barely afford the Porsche and you want a Ferrari? Repy: Duh!!
This will be a fun track for big HP cars! Thanks for posting the video. Great to see a new track in this day and age - especially in this highly regulated Washington state!
I was checking their site http://www.ridgemotorsportspark.com/newspost/motorcycle-test-day/ and they've posted another video. It's to good not to share. I usually prefer motors to music but at 5/10ths what the heck. MC Action at the Ridge - YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ew1sZEFVIsg&feature=player_embedded
Echoing Jalpa Mike's comment/question Post 57: Seems to still be a lot 'loose' trees lining the course; are those going? I would think a bit more 'selective thinning' is called for....? ...even connecting with just one of those trees would mess up your lap....
Interesting. I didn't notice any trees in critical areas. Has anyone ever been to Pacific Raceways? This has 1/15th the trees near the track.
Looks similar in concept to the Atlanta Motorsports Park being build near here. I flew over Putnam Park in Indiana last month, which also looks similar. This is a concept that seems to be fluorishing all over the country.
How WIDE is the track surface? From the videos it doesn't look much wider than a two-lane road. A track is much more competitive (and fun) with extra width in key areas.
Don't worry about trees and runoff areas. By the time this thing is finished, it will be the safest road course in the country for not only cars, but also for motorcycles. That's what you get when you have club racers (who have to pay for their own damaged cars) in charge. Rod enlisted the help of professional track designers, racers, club folks, and had many meetings where people provided wish lists and requirements. Of course, no track can offset a foolish, poorly trained racer trying to ignore the laws of physics. Still, I'd feel very comfortable taking any of my cars out there.
The track is wonderful!! We just finished a track day out there on Sunday. As posted elsewhere by sammyb, the track is fantastic. This track is very different from other offerings in the northwest and here is how I look at it: 1) The Ridge: Fast track, 2.5mi, semi-complicated/technical. Fast sweepers are a signature but there are several blind and semi blind corners, some camber changes and some off camber. An easy track to learn in a day but long and complicated enough to always be finding something new. 2) Oregon Raceway Park: Slower speed track, very complex, and a tough track to learn in one weekend. Short straights with many multi turn complexs that have several technical features in each turn. If you love a challenge, this track is it! There are other tracks in Washington and Oregon of course but these two are top in my book. But they are at the top for very different reasons. Trevor
I just took a tour yesterday and wow! It is nice. Thanks, Trevor! Here's more details with photos and a short video - http://www.apexrally.com/2012/03/ridge-motorsports-park-tour-and-parade.html . Have a good one.
