never saw this before but subscribed now. very nice
Sick ride I'm restoring my 68 Vette roadster w a new frame & I'm dropping in an LS7 & 6 speed trans, Large Brembo brakes We should race when my Vettes done
It's nearly ready at Moto Technique after an accident bodywork repair (insurance job). Next outing will be the Pomeroy Trophy again at Silverstone around late Feb. We are currently developing some prototype 18inch alloy rim wire wheels to take the Pirelli slicks & wets to do some races in the FOC Pirelli series next year. If they look good on the car I may stick with 18in wheels for the road too and then we may well fit larger diameter brakes.
Will you're a man after my own heart, that was one labor of love. Idealists are extremists now aren't they. I think the 18" Road and Track wheels are a good idea. I have taken the liberty of converting the race sizes to street sizes for you: 345/35/18 and they fit on an 18x11 http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Hoosier&tireModel=R6&partnum=3435ZR8R6&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&tab=Specs There's also a list of specs there to play with for the front tires. The 18x11 will also fit the 285/40/18 in the best tested street tire http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ExtremeContact+DW&partnum=84YR8ECDW&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&tab=Specs
Thanks for this. The car currently has the Daytona size 9 x 15 rears & 7.5 x 15 fronts (Cromadore cast, Borrani or Turrino alloy wires). I propose to build 8 x 18 fronts and think I may be able to fit up to 10 x 18 rears, the extra inch here being gained on the inner edge which may clear the lower wishbone link on to the hub due to the bigger diameter. Wider than that I think will foul on the upper chassis section. The wheels will be built to a new Patent design which I'm working on right now and following track testing will be marketed in a range of sizes as part of the Turrino brand.
Glad to help. You don't have to guess when doing this like most builders do. You just have to jack up the car on one corner with the suspension fully compressed and take measurements wider and taller with the wheel turned to the fullest both ways using a small mm ruler. You also have to consider the offset. the distance from the center line to the wheel mount. You have an opportunity to maximize tire size with a custom wheel. HRE is a company very experienced with custom wheels. From the pictures I see that there is plenty of fender gap for a taller tire which is better than going wider, to a point. 600hp on an 18x10 probably won't be the most enjoyable at the track, even on a slick. For comparisons sake the 600hp GT1 GT-R with about the same weight has 18x13s at all 4 corners and 28 inch tall tires. Personally I would modify the fenders and suspension after the ideal tires are on. I imagine you would also need to upgrade the brakes since the 15s don't allow for the biggest brakes unless you're using NASCAR brakes. You would also have a much better tire selection for road and track in 19 inch. 345/35/19 rear and 325/30/19 front would be ideal http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?width=345%2F&ratio=35&diameter=19&x=21&y=10 You'll actually have a better selection of slicks in 15" than 18" because the lower the profile the narrower the tire to wheel ratio. For example you can fit a 325/50 on the 15x9 but only a 295/35/18 on an 18x10 which is basically a front tire in FIA GT rear engine cars.
Not yet, but I plan to film some acceleration runs with GPS speed measurement (60-130, 60 -150 etc) soon, and these will come with full sound.
Maybe you've misunderstood me. My company manufactures alloy rim (and other) wire wheels and there's no guesswork involved. We just haven't yet checked the clearance on the inside of the inner edge which we will do by mounting a dummy rim. There's no question of altering the wheel arches as I have as much flare as I want for the car to look right. Obviously I have to use Pirelli for the FOC series and their smallest diameter slicks in the sort of width I want are 18in, and I don't want to go bigger diameter because of the looks, gearing & wheel arch clearance. The car is great on the track already with the wheels & tyres it has now. Do you (or anybody) know how the PZero Corsa System road legal tyres you've linked to compare to the Racing wets in wet weather lap times? If they're not too much slower I could perhaps use these as dual purpose and save myself making a third set of wheels
I know that the Corsa are original equipment on the Enzo FXX, Gallardo Superleggara and Porsche GT3 RS and were engineered for lapping the North Loop. Here are some positive reviews, click on the reviews tab: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Pirelli&tireModel=PZero+Corsa+System
Makes sense, for comparisons sake the 245/35/18 are the fronts on a Murcielago with a much lighter nose and the 295/30/18 are the rears on the '04 911 GT3. The Corsas also have the same combination in 19 and 20s which are Ferrari OE if you have room to go taller.
LOVE IT!! God I wish more Ferrari owners would hot rod thier cars. I really wanna gut and tweak a Testarossa, just haven't found the right car yet. I'll find it tho'!!
Ran into this old thread, again during a search for upgrading brakes, and the project is certainly interesting enough, but its been a few years. Anyone know of the owner and/or the whereabouts of the car?
