To the true GTO "knowledgeable experts" of this great site, I am only curious, thus a question. Please don't tell me who died, which car gave up its organs, or who are the usual suspects. Please don't start a ruckus about this horrible "recreation" situation and please don't argue, ok? All I would like to know, is, what is your AESTHETIC OPINION of this "replica/recreation/impersonation" of a GTO. I ONLY would like to know, what are the good an the bad ASSEMBLY issues, that are visible. I hope this one works. Thank you. As you probably know, Terry Hoyle has one of the best reputations in the Ferrari world, so it's probably very very nice. But I notice that most of the GTO reps have a common trait: the top of the side window is lower than it should be near where it meets the windshield. Or maybe it's just my old eyes?
This and the silver one look fantastic. The Windshield does look too tall/side windows too small but i wouldnt kick it out of my garage.
OK, I can clearly see the awkward area betw the windshield and the side window, and i recall seeing similar issues with other GTO recreations. Why does this fairly important aesthetic problem recur on so many cars? Is it because either the windshield or the side window is a stock item, not from the same design originally? Did the silver one @ Family Classics or somesuch in SoCal a couple of years ago suffer from the same problem? (I recall that nearly everyone loved that car.......) As a designer, I'm curious that no one has resolved the issue across so many cars... As a final test; can anyone post a real car and a recreation with similar angles to compare?
Maybe this illustrates the question? 6GTO pic by Julio Batista "borrowed" from the other thread....(TIA) other pic from FJ Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Family Classic Cars GTO recreation seems to have a much better side window to windscreen relationship... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Silver one still advertised..i wonder how much they want. http://www.familyclassiccars.com/2009/12/22/1962-ferrari-250-gto/
Good eye Mr. Niles..... The silver one is only "off" about an inch, as the red one it grows to 2".... Nothing wrong with your eyesight, sir!!!
The silver one looks pretty darn close, to my eye. Wasn't the silver one made as a clone of a specific car?
That rear lip is HUGE. The Fantasy Junction car, on the other hand, looks like an anteater. Best wishes, Kare
I was also shocked by the rear lip. Seriously, when you think of what you can get for 1.5 million Dollar, who would buy a replica, even if it was perfect? Don't you get an authentic 250 SWB for this price?
No, even a "lusso" SWB is now $3M plus. '61 Comp over $6M, I think. Don't you think I cry every time I see 2689GT? I think I had a hard time getting $4500 or so.
Where can you get a Daytona Comp and a 275 GTB for 1.5M? I have seen one Daytona Comp sell for around $800k ( and i dont think it was part of the first 15 cars..) and a 275 GTB is at least $1M nowadays..But i agree, i would buy a nice 275 GTB for that much. Maybe an alloy 6 carbs.
The last of the 3 cars made with 4liter chassis had an odd roof line as thge intended driver-Cavallier-was 6 foot four+, the rumors always were that the peculiar roof line, and obviously different roof line at the windscreen, was due to the specifics of this 1-off aspect of this specific car...my guess...is that this one-at fantasy-is styled after this, the third car...
I think it looks great !! I would take this over any Cobra remake anyday-- Does anybody know if the recreations have the same position of the engine BEHIND the front wheels, from what I know this make the real GTO a handeling marvel ???
Many things vary from car to car. On a 2+2 based car my main concern would be if there is enough room for a grown up driver. The rear axle set-up of original chassis forces the driver seat to be placed very close to steering wheel and everyone can imagine how that affects the driving - unless you are 5'2, or enjoy driving you chest to the wheel, off course.
