There's no possible way to explain all the dynamics in the GB game anymore, it's just way too complicated.

Okay, an example to get one good level 100 to go to these kinds of tournaments:

spend 1-2 days trying to breed the right two parents with the right inherited stats and moves with the right nature for that pokemon's purpose on your team(natures raise certain stats and lower others, an example is adamant, it adds to physical attack(punches, fighting moves) and subtracts from the special attack stat. while modest adds to special attack while lowering physical. then there's entirely different stuff like naive which raises speed and lowers special defense) but I digress. once you get the perfect one to hatch, you then have to EV train it (effort values) ev's are the stat that fighting a certain pokemon raises when you fight it, such as a spinda(panda look alike), it raises special attack one EV point when you KO it, you need 6 ev points to raise a stat by one whole point. but if you fight a carvanha(you can guess) it raises attack by 1. to make this process go faster(which you want badly) you'll equip a macho brace item to the pokemon you are training, which doubles the ev points you get from fighting a pokemon. you get 510 ev points to spread in all, and can have a max of 252 in one stat(actually it's 255, but why add some if it doesn't make difference). if you're good, this takes about 5 hours. if you're a genius who uses the secret base record mixing technique, it takes an hour. I do this. then after that monotony comes the REALLY monotonous part, raising it to level 100. after you finish all the ev training, you are usually at about level 30 or so, depending on what you are raising. then you have to do a either 20 or so runs through the elite 4, very tiring, or you could again do secret base record mixing. but that's very complicated and I won't go into detail. After that you put the right moveset on it with the right item to help put a little extra power in. I didn't even say anything about calculating IV's (individual values of a stat)

this game os not for little kids. you need a calculator, some paper, and alot of time to do it right. the guy that cheated typed in two lines of codes and took about 2 minutes to do everything I just told you without any work. Fair? I don't think so.

EDIT: okay I found a spot where I explained what IV's are and what they do to one of my friends who won the 12- in houston. It's probably incomprehensible mumbo jumbo nerd speak to you guys.

IV's are certain stats that are like a pokemon's genes, they can't be changed. They range from 0 to 31. the higher the level, the more a difference it makes. say a pokemon has a speed of 19 at level 5, and a different pokemon of the same species has a speed of 18. not much difference, right? well the higher you raise them, the more of a difference it makes. say a level 100 aerodactyl with a jolly(+spd, -sp.atk) nature has a speed of 325 without ev training it. this means that his speed IV is 31, it's perfect. now another aerodactyl at level 100 could have a speed of 291, this aerodactyl's speed IV is 0, which is the worst IV possible. at level 5, it makes a 1 or 2 point difference. at level 100, IV's can make a 31 point difference, which is huge. to calculate IV's, I would go to smogon.com, go to the netbattle link, download netbattle, and use the team builder there. put the pokemon you have into it in expert mode, with all the, EV's you've trained it with, and the nature it has, then go to where it has the stats on the upper left hand corner, and move the bars that range from 00-31, once you get the exact stat you're pokemon has, look at the left hand number, that's its IV in that stat. also, in emerald, at the battle frontier, when the guy in the house above the pokemon center tells you that a stat is flawless, it means it has a perfect IV in whatever stat he says. I know it's hard to understand, but it will make you much beter when you try to catch those legendarys with good stats.

See, I told you it has evolved into a much more complex game. I cannot keep up. This is just what it takes to get one Pokemon ready for battle. YOu have six in your Gameboy and then all the trainer and energy cards........Phew.......

Sounds interesting. Weird that they could have a serious competition like this and someone could easily cheat and win the whole thing... especially if a lot of money is on the line.

Well, anyway, good luck with the next competition as well as the protestish thing you are going through.

It is very difficult to catch someone cheating in a game like this. The electronics are not actually altered but the time it takes and the steps you must go through to get a team ready can be several hundred hours. To cheat can take 10 minutes. And in this ten minutes you can build a perfect value team.

Coming back to Houston in May to the Space Center for the last Texas stop....
