I will cast a very biased vote for the 1st gen Cali - I like my derrieres full and curvaceous! T Image Unavailable, Please Login
My wife owns a Cali T HS, we have an order in for a 2020 PF. I go.... Cali T I have serious reservations about the PF rear, the lights pushed way out, the plastic around the lights, the massive chunk of plastic above the exhausts. Its not the best angle for any of the three cars really, with both the later ones maybe trying hard to cover up a fact of life , there is a roof in the boot. Maybe Kudos should go to the original Cali which didn't bother to hide it and indeed made a feature of its backside by stacking the pipes? Stylistically I think the 2003 onward Mercedes SL did the folding hard top rear best, shame it leaked and broke all the time.
To my eye the Portofino without a doubt has the best back end. However I believe he Cali T has the best front end of all three by far. It is very elegant and tastful.
Cali T ... the rear end of the PF is a disaster as soon as you take the angle and see that half of it is protruding plastic.
I also vote original Cali and Cali 30 for best front looks. To me, the scoop looks better than the nostrils. It evokes the classic era Ferrari. As before, a totally biased vote. T
Come on Tom, if u buy the new PF, u can use the back plastic bumper to put your beer on . I also vote for the orginal CALI and the T. Looks like to much plastic on the PF, I'm sure u can get all those parts in carbon fiber but WOW I can imagine the price$$$$
Hey, now, Doc! I realize that I've lived in the South for a good long time, but someone puts a beer on my Cali's rear bumper, they're gonna have a fight on their hands. From my wife! Seriously though, this is from one of Mario's many excellent posts in the Portofino launch thread. Image Unavailable, Please Login There are no losers in that pic. These are Ferrari. You can't see much of the rear end from the driver's seat. You can only see it from the driver's seat of the car behind you, and there's a 99 out of 100 chance that person is thinking "Holy cow, that's a freaking Ferrari!". T
Agree with you Tom no losers on that picture because each rear has it's own idiosyncrasies and beauty. However if we look at Brazil which is famous for some of the most sculptured rear sides in the world, they have an anual competition called Miss Bumbum where they choose the women with the best "arriere". Interestingly, the winner always has large or very large buttocks.
^ Mario... That sounds like another vote for the NA Cali. Also, you just reminded me, I got to go back to Brazil! On topic, PF may be best looking rear view among the current generation. T
At first, I envied the more modern look of the Cali T vs my Cali 30. But after some time, I learned to appreciate the scoop of the Cali 30 and it's sort of retro exterior more as it seems to have more design feature of the original 250GT California. The PF on the other hand, looks really nice on photos (can't say the same on my Cali). While the Cali T is sleek, the PF is a lot more sports car than GT. Kinda reminds me of the F12.
Hmmmmmmm! I kept looking at this pic in both posts - and I wonder - its the color also that is making cars look so different. If ALL THREE were in one color , say Cherry red we could differentiate better. I have the rosso corsa na, and I think that color hides the lines and curves vs darker colors and all you see is a fat bottom. Many folks bought the blacks titaniums and grays for that reason.
^Good point. Here is the Porto in red, rear view. I think it looks better in red than the white on the above pic. I think the PF may be the least "color sensitive" F-car since the F12. T Image Unavailable, Please Login
T is good. I think all aspects of the portofino are better looking than all the previous CA cars. But I'm not a fanboy of most of the latest designs. 812 is a disaster... Robb
Original Cali, a bit of an 812 moment. Cali T, huge improvement. PF, slight improvement over Cali T when viewed in context of the whole. In the red shot, not a flattering and slightly distorted angle but having seen it in the fleas, its sits best with the overall design in my view.
DING DING DING!!!!!!!!!! Some thing just occurred to me. PF has the funny lights with lexus-like add-on because trunk is now cutout in a way that lights don't lift up with it (For NA Market I guess). That's why they have to do the fugly black part next to each light to visually hide the cut-out lines of trunk-lid. I found this as I was searching for the bottom brake light like my 10 has.
The PF rear light are a major improvement over the non-functional predecessors. As far as the plastic border trim, this is similar to the design of the 488 tail light which is even more exaggerated, In the 488, a carbon fiber trim upgrade is an option . Perhaps this will offered with the PF too.
