Silly statement, I am one. Jay Leno, poor guy can't get over the fact that he was slightled by a Ferrari rep/dealer/factory at an early age.

One of the biggest, purest, "car guys" on the planet, and he misses out on all the best cars. With his money he could have all the best Ferrari's, his loss.

**** ...I'm still married to my original wife, as are many Canadian Ferrari owners that I know.

what a stupid thing for him to say.

He was making a joke and his career was built on being a comedian. He's not my favorite comedian...not even close, but he's a true car guy.

As a friend said to me, he must have been thinking of Lamborghini owners! :)

I'm still married to the woman who grew tired of my angst about splurging on myself with a Ferrari, and told me, and I quote, "Stop being a ***** and go get that car!"

As for Leno, someone once asked him why he didn't have an interest in taking his cars to the limit by driving on a track. His comedic reply was that while he enjoys sex, he wouldn't want to be a porn star. Some car guy.

Never really been a fan, not since I saw him rise to fame on TV in the Eighties, before he took over the Tonight Show, when he was rehashing at multiple venues that same joke about the emergency evacuation cards on airplanes featuring cartoon women in stiletto heels stepping into rubber dinghies. For some reason that stuck in my mind. There's also been some talk about some of his underhanded ploys in acquiring some of the cars in his collection.

Jay is a good guy - tries to be the 'everyman's' comedian. He is smart enough to know if your jokes can resonate with the *majority* you'll be much more successful.

..and it was a funny joke!

Why the assumption that only men own Ferraris?

didn't you bail on Ferrari and go to Lamborghini for pretty much the same reason Leno did? :)

    (unrelated to his joke)

He was making a joke about a stereotype. wasn't one of his best one liners, but we've all run into plenty of the people to whom he was referring.

he's been married for 37 years.

same joke funnier if he had made it about celebrities?

I certainly don't have the data but I'd venture to guess that's because 99.9% of owners are men :D

If I want to pickup a girl, I'll take my Maserati coz they couldn't care less about my Ferrari ;)

And Leno is a jokester - it was a joke and it was funny :)

I read an article about a Duesenberg he bought for what I suppose to some was a good deal and subsequently restored it (imo it was not an elegant one at all like most think of). The former owners (maybe heirs to that family estate?) came back wanting more after the car was restored.

The car was in horrific condition when he got and it looks like he basically did an entire new build. If that's what some of the stories you're referring to, it sounds like seller's remorse after they find out what it could have been worth if they took the time and energy to take care of the cars like he does plus missing out on the recent boom in some car values. He also doesn't seem like a guy that buys parts/work from shops and lets the bills go unpaid.

Yup, and Jay is pretty much 'always on' he's an equal opportunity jokster! I've seen him make fun of lots of groups.

The Duesenberg case is one of the instances I've heard. It does sound like seller's remorse on the surface, but if you read the details it does seem sketchy. Other things I've read a few years ago about some of his car dealings were probably what lawyers would refer to as hearsay, so I won't go into details.

He's stated multiple times that his collection has never been funded by his Tonight Show salary. How is that believable, and why would he make that distinction? To not offend his audience who are enabling his conspicuous consumption? I dunno.

Leno grates on me for multiple reasons, but I don't doubt he's passionate about his hobby. So I'll stop griping now.

Leno is like Rob Gronkowski with their income spending. Both are vocal about their lifestyle spending and income. Both claim to not spend a dime of their salaries and spend money from their moonlighting (endorsements, appearances, etc). And being that they invest their salaries, they never said they don't withdraw from interest earned either. It's complete believable. I barely moonlight anymore on the side for my job (MD), but if I did as much as I could I'd be able to live very comfortably off that alone and never touch my actual daily job paycheck.

I'm still married to my first wife (43 years), but she is still angry about it and says I need electric cars, NOT sports cars. I say ok, but your horses have to go before mine.

Brilliant and quite apt for me. I was married for 23 years and thought it was forever. Ferrari loving (and cars in general) was not the only thing but it played it's part.
When I decided to buy that first Ferrari she said "Can't you buy a new Mazda sports car instead?" It went downhill after that and lasted a mere 5 years.

He’s just not funny. Tries to be Everyman but isn’t. His handling of Conan showed his awkwardness and inability to let go.

As for his comment, my wife said to me when I discussed the idea - ok you can have a Ferrari but not a mistress.

    I’m on my fourth. Ferrari.

    Cars are cheaper even Ferraris.

With all the complaints about snowflakes on this forum I'm surprised so many of you are 'melting' over a comment intended to be be funny made by a comedian.

I’m sure in reality there’s a ton of work involved in building a brand and marketing..... but that’s one of those things that makes me think we’re in the wrong business.

I don't know why he bailed. I bailed because mine was in the shop more than in my garage and was going to single handedly bankrupt me while providing zero enjoyment but LOADS of frustration.
