Flushed out the pilot jets, but then noticed something: everyone says screw in the air bleeds fully, then back them out one and a half turns as a starting point, which I had done. The manual says back it out 3/4 of a turn, which I did - started first kick. Still chasing oil leaks, though
Cool, you’re inspiring me, I’m always perving over Laverda Jota’s in the paper, I just need a windfall

Sheesh those plugs have seen better days, when was the last time they were changed? So the plugs off your boat and dampers off the Ferrari Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Was the gasket for the spark plug cover missing? That seems like significant water ingress in there And those plugs are BLACK. Get rid of that stupid Motec system and put it back to original
The issue with Motec if NOT soughted by a professional on older cars or aftermarket systems can be a nightmare, car running far too to rich or far to lean or as people with older cars have found out when fitting Motec a constant miss at a particular rev range The original system on ANY Ferrari be it a BB512,Dino,308 or a 355 is more than adequate to deliver the correct amount of fuel only a dill would go aftermarket on a Ferrari and decrease its value and appeal !
No, gasket was there but got pulled apart when Marc took the cam covers off It's getting all new gaskets, new red crackle finish for cam and sparkplug covers and obviously new sparkplugs, they are over 8 years old !! The MOTEC is getting upgraded by Marc as he is getting the MOTEC guys to put a new MOTEC system on and remap it. MOTEC was put on by Wayne Parks who raced these a LOT and it was used to stop the "Check engine" light A totally new wiring loom is used and ONE throttle position sensor rather than the TWO Motronic 2.7 uses
Quite wrong, see my answer above Also, I DRIVE mine a LOT and the engine bay is finally getting the big clean up it's needed for some time I'll post the pics of the finished product ....... a few weeks away, it's going to have new shocks and brake rotors, new engine mounts, new MOTEC, new sparkplugs and if my deal with local Ferrari dealer goes well will get replaced by 488 Funnily enough the dealer is not keen on me selling it (well they are selling it) as they think I won't like the 488 ...... I'll get them to loan me one for a weekend
CEL for what? Exhaust? 5.2's can be buggers with exhausts and post-cat CEL's. 2.7's have issues of their own, but it's usually related to faulty ECU's or heat probes.
Yeah well I wouldn't mess with it personally. The stock setup is fine and most people buying these cars for good money wouldn't want one that's been messed with. That's just my view of course what would I know anyway..... I reckon you'll love the power and refinement, but you'll miss the character.
My E-type has had its Motec for 20-plus years, The only issue once was heavy rain and moisture via the bonnet grills got to the manifold sensor and she stayed on full rich. But its always been maintained by trained Motec tecs not dills .
Yeah my (personal) concerns aren't to do with that - god knows F parts can break really easily too - but rather I'd prefer to keep a Ferrari as close to bone stock as is humanely possible. Again what do I know.. Some people get theirs wrapped bright green, so long as you're happy who gives a F.
Fully agree as I said in a previous post keep a Ferrari mechanically stock . All too hard sell a hot rod.
Great stuff JM! Keep me in mind in 10 years time when you're ready to sell the 488 as I should be able to afford to by one by then.
