I don't have the common favorite movies like most males (meaning Scarface, Godfather, Boondocks Saints, etc).

    1. Dazed and Confused
    2. SpinalTap
    3. Detroit Rock City
    4. Back to the Future - parts I, II, & III (the correlation in each movie with overlapping family and scenes is brilliance - and so is "ONE POINT TWENTY-ONE JIGGAWATTS!!!! What the HELL is a jiggawatt!!???)
    5. Airheads (as crappy of a movie as it was, it still rocks)
    6. Almost Famous
    7. Half Baked (Dave Chappelle, Jim Breuer, and a few others...classic)
    8. Tommy Boy
    9. Dumb & Dumber (I probably could act out every line in every scene by every person, I've seen it so much)
    10. Pay it Forward

    Honorable Mentions:
    Breakfast Club
    Encino Man
    Bad Boys
    Rush Hour
Leap of Faith (I hate Steve Martin, but this character role fit him perfectly and his performance was great)
    Jackass 1 & 2
Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Michael (John Travolta is a great actor, probably one of my favorite serious actors)

Lastly, I hope Wild Hogs will be a great movie. I'm going to see it next weekend with my parents. I'm excited. I haven't seen a movie in a theater since Behind Enemy Lines.

    Good question.

I guess I base favorite movies on ones I can watch over and over again and still enjoy them. I'd have to say:

Casablanca - Will always be my favorite movie, I watched it just the other day.

The Empire Strikes Back - Best Star Wars film. Boba Fett > *

12 Angry Men - probably the best dialouge driven film I've ever seen.

Surf Ninjas - "Hey, I found Waldo!" "REALLY!?" "Psyche!"

Bad Boys II - "Carlos, this is a stupid ****ing problem to have. BUT, it is a problem none the less!"

Aladdin - Best Disney movie, IMO. Everyone loves it.

Scarface - The movie that defines rags to riches for me.

Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade - "She talks in her sleep"

Back To The Future Trilogy - You can't really seperate them, it's one big story like the Lord of The Rings, but NO ONE would watch a 10 hour movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean - I don't want to like this movie, but I can't help myself.

I have a feeling the movie "300" will make it on this list when it releases this Friday.

Just off the top of my head: (links are to IMDB)

Broken Arrow (1950) One of the first films to give serious consideration to the native americans' side of the westerns, and one of the few film arguments where you can see both viewpoints -- not just the director's opinion and a paper target.

Grand Prix (1966) *The* one and only F1 race car film. It couldn't be done today.

Sanjuro (Tsubaki Sanjuro) (1962) A hilarious romp with some serious themes beneath it. Classic Kirosawa.

Seventh Seal (Det Sjunde inseglet) (1957) Bergman's light introduction to far heavier themes.

Un coeur en hiver (1992) But what if he doesn't want to be "saved" by a "good woman"? The "scorned woman" scene was so overblown it was both tragic and hilarious at the same time.

The Lion in Winter (1968) Stellar cast and spectacular story.

The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) Story, romance, and a travelogue -- film at its best.

Death and the Maiden (1994) Can the mind of evil be understood?

Cyrano de Bergerac (1990) An excellent rendition of a classic. Worth learning French for. (The subtitles aren't entirely accurate.)

Untamed Heart (1993) I know: a "chick flick". But do you believe in individual freedom ... enough to see someone throw his life away for a superstition?

To Have and Have Not (1944) Lauren Bacall ... Smmmokin! Oh yeah, there's a story there, too.

Innocent Blood (1992) Dark comedy with great eye candy.

Casablanca (1942) - actually higher on the list, but I've already seen it a zillion times.

Quigley Down Under (1990) Again: story, romance, and scenery.

    Oscar (1991) Vaudeville lives.

Return of the Killer Tomatoes! (1988) Silly -- and Karen Mistal: that's some tomato! ;)

White Nights (1985) Even someone who isn't a dance fan can't ignore this one. The scenes from "Le jeune homme et la mort" in the opening alone are worth seeing. (No subtitles on the version I saw: something like "the proletariat have nothing to lose but their loose change"? ... just before he goes out the window.)

Shall we dansu? (1996) The japanese original was a far better story than the 2004 remake. Gere as a drab accountant? And JLo looks like her only dance experience involved a brass pole. What idiot cast the remake? (Although Sarandon did a much better job with the wife's role.) Among the Lakota I am known as "Dances with two left feet", and even *I* was laughing at the remake's "dance" scenes. So Sorry, Hollywood: what Broadway always knew: it's easier to teach dancers to act than to teach actors to dance.

    Oops: well past 10. Also:
We're No Angels (1955), Pirates of Penzance (1983), Airplane! (1980), The Gumball Rally (1976), Dead Poets Society (1989), The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), The Big Sleep (1946) (and 1978), Little Shop of Horrors (1986)

These aren't really films, but they're worth viewing, if you can find them on DVD:
Le Comte de Monte Cristo (1998)(miniseries) A four part miniseries, but vastly superior to the film version.

A Midsummer's Night's Dream (1982)(TV) The way to show Shakespeare is to just film Joe Papp's Shakespeare in the Park. Hollywood (and even british film) has never been able to do Shakespeare as well. This was from the old "Arts and Entertainment" Channel.

i have to add the boondock saints, bad boys 2, a clockwork orange, the seventh seal, one flew over the cuckoo's nest, and all of the star wars' to my list. there is rarely a movie i don't like, and to date own well over 200 dvds. my biggest worry is having to rebuy them all once bluray and hddvd become more popular.
