Been kicking this one around a bit, a lot of great cars to choose from. But, the one that resonates personally is the 1999 BMW LMR V12. This was the car that laid down the gauntlet for all other manufacturers to follow starting at the 12 Hours of Sebring where the LMR V12 of Kristensen-Lehto-Muller won overall by less than nine seconds at the end, the closest non-staged finish in Sebring history. The LMR V12 was a phenomenal car built by Williams Grand Prix Engineering and featuring a screaming BMW V12 engine derived from the McLaren F-1 GTR project. Tom Kristensen described it to me in an interview at Sebring in 2013, I asked him if it was as fun to drive as it looked. "Yeah, it was. It was quite low on down force, you know, and it was how things developed to what you see today. It had a great sound and a responsive engine, the V-12 engine, it was very vital to that project. The downside of that is it was really, really heavy. "Sometimes I describe it a little bit like, it was a fantastic car and engine, it was a bit like you had a gorilla on your back, not a monkey, into the corners. And, so the speed of the car through the corners depended on the rear, but even with the weight of the engine, it was really a great machine." My bias for the BMW LMR V12 comes as a result of photographing for the team and Becks Beer at Sebring, an unforgettable experience working with the overall winning team on such a resounding victory and my images playing globally. I'm sorry, but that is in no way what I'd call "pretty"! Looks like it may be about the most fun you could have behind the wheel, but pretty she ain't! Where do they race those things? Cheers, Ian

This is for "your favorite racecar" not necessarily prettiest. This class is for 1/2 to 1 mile tracks. Basically a pavement sprint car with a large fuel tank.
When Silver Crown started out, it was a place for now-obsolete Indy roadsters to have a new lease on life. Now, about the only thing these cars share with the old roadsters is the same general layout!
