This has been talked about a lot, but I'd say the average cost would be $6k to $8k by a reputable shop, provided they find no unusual surprises. Do a search of past posts...

    Shamile,

I believe you remember that I put a Motec in my TR. I love it and it is a stand alone unit.

+100000000000 you said it. Either a very good aftermarket vendor is going to have to become available for several parts or many of these great models may fall into rough shape due to insane parts prices.

    Dear Ferraristi,

Yes, I remember. In fact I had your car in mind when I was posting about the simplicity of the TR electronics or early Diablo. Easy to convert....not like the shared parameters between modules of newer cars.

Not to veer this thread off topic but after looking at those pictures of your pretty ladies with you in them, I must say I had a different visual of what you looked like.

Just had it done on my '85 last month by a reputable independent shop and it was just under $8k. A few other fixed items bumped the total bill to just over $10K.

Well over 6K of that was the drop gear fiasco. $1700 for the gear , $1200 for the cover, $950 for the shaft, $600 for gear oil to flush 3 times , another $2000 plus in misc bearings and seals, a couple grand in labor for this part , so 8 - 10 is about right just for the major service.

5 is way cheap. I would think 5k - 6 K is what labor should run and another 2 -3K for parts

Pretty funny how the posts above ^ talk about 5-10k as being cheap....yet a thread will showup here for a TR going for $49,000 and 4 pages later everyone saying how too much that is....yet the Lambo Countach is fetching strong money over 6 figures in most cases, yet the TRs cant be given away....what a shame.

Remember the days when those 2 cars were the same ballpark price....but then again from 74-90 the "C" was only 2,000 units in total production...far cry from the TR of 7,000 units from 84-92....what a bunch of crap.

I was quoted $5,500 from Ultimate a few years ago for the big service on the Testarossa, but that's if nothing else was needed.

That's pretty low. Last major on my 328 was $5400, with no incidentals.

Dealer quoted $9300 for the same. I would assume a TR would be more than the V8s.

Dealers overcharge for the engine out and back in. Ferrari made it very clear that to remove the engine in the Testarossa was a fast and simple solution, but owners don't know how quickly this can be done. But the present hourly rates is what has risen the maintenance costs, I remember when doing a major on a 328 was a $3,500 job estimated.
