    Hello Folks,

Yesterday there was an exceptionally hilarious episode of Top Gear on BBC. The team turned a Reliant Robin (British bread-and-butter car with three wheels) into a Space Shuttle.
These guys are unsurpassed and I am sooooooo glad that the show is back!

    Info: http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/show/production_notes/shuttle.shtml

This movie only shows the last few minutes of the episode. I didn't find the complete version including the preparation of the launch which is damn funny.

What channel are you watching it on Jan?
If it's BBC World then you're about 1-1.5 years behind.

Still one of my favourite episodes though.

This may be a stupid question, but was it real? For some reason I doubt it ;)

I saw it both times. (Recent re-run and original a while back.)

Yes, it's "real". Sorta. It was intended to go up (no passenger) and be radio controlled after separating from the boosters.

"How hard could it be?" :D

These guys "are no rocket scientists". :p

Haha. I've heard that for a space shuttle to take off it uses a couple thousand dollars in fuel alone. Now that's what I call a waste, but hey, they probably made more money from the TV show then they know what to do with.

Does anyone know if we get Top Gear on Canadian television?

The "shuttle" has been real. I remember reading that British papers reported it was the largest non-military rocket ever launched in Britain. But those guys didn't have one week for designing and building it, it was more like half a year...

I just read that Top Gear is one the most pirated TV shows in the world and for good reason. I just started watching it a few months ago and I love it.

Then they should release some DVDs and profit from it. It is one of the few shows that is easy to watch more than once.

Just started watching TG and loving it.

    It's Monty Python does automobiles.

The soccer (aka football) match with cars was hilarious. reminded me of when Monty Python had a match between the Druids and the Monks.

Plus we get to see reviews of cars we never really get to see in the US. ;)

That's pretty ridiculously low. The fuel tank for the Shuttle holds 146,000 gallons of liquid oxygen and 395,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen.

But 83% of the thrust comes from the rocket boosters. There are two, and each one has better than 1,100,000 pounds of rocket fuel at launch.

Total average cost to launch = $450 million U.S.

Oh, wait...were you being saracastic? I'm dumb...
