    Hello all,
Just put down a deposit on this 1991 Testarossa
Japanese until imported to UK last year - Originally supplied by Maranello, then exported via the far east to Japan.
Absoultely immaculate!! Very pleased, and only a couple of minor tweaks to get back to "original" Paid £72K - about $110K - I know very high for the US market, but the UK seems to be a rule unto itself!!
One modification which I am unsure about is the front brakes. These are yellow Brembos which look like 4 pots, with a grooved disc on what looks to be a custom (red) anodised hub.
They are on the original 16" rims, so a little confused as to what I have here.
Will investigate further once ive taken delivery, but wondered if anyone here could shed any light?

    Left hand drive?

I thought Japan and UK were both right hand drive?

In Japan, the wheel is on the left and they drive on the left! It's pretty strange.

I live in Japan and can tell you that barely any Ferraris are Left hand drive. I have a 1992 512TR LHD. There are many cars like this in Japan that are not just Ferraris and they consider it a marque of prestige. Even many toll booths are set up to accept cars from both sides. It rarely creates a problem actually. Congrats on the new ride. Looks lovely.

    thank you martinperry

in this forum here there is so much knowledge you will never find again on any other place I think. everybody helps each other and so it is good to know a little. we have here some absolutely high technicians and also those who are only able to drive and to fill up fuel.

also when you go somewhere in real live to a new place you also tell other people about yourself. or may I be wrong?

Not yet - when I take delivery, I will whip a wheel off and post some pics up - You can just about make the calipers out in the above pics, but thats as good as it gets at the moment. All the Brembo conversions Ive found so far have been for 18" wheels, so a little perplexed!

Coincidentally, a RHD 12K miler just sold at Coys auction for £132K - see what I mean about the mad UK market!!

Ah sweet, looks lovely - if ex Japan should be as nice underneath as it is on top!

Was just about to say after that auction that car looks cheap - so that was perfect timing lol.

There's a couple of sub 10k miles cars @120k+ and assuming they're mint they don't seem so expensive now....

Certainly looked like you could eat your dinner off the running gear!!
Must confess, that whilst mulling over the negotiation yesterday I had a voice in my head screaming to wait and see if i could get the Coys one - Estimate was 65-85K!
Very glad I didnt wait - it appears I did allright, and some rich banker may have pipped me at the post. Apparently its bonus time

Yeah so true! When you look at what they were a year ago it seems ridiculous pricing but when you look at what else you can get pre 1990's for even double the money it's still amazing value.

Anyway smart move on that purchase Martin, if you had of waited it could have been an entirely different story!

It's like that 80+k 308 and 300+k Countach at auctions last year - they marked the end of cheap ones available in the UK of those 2 models, so maybe you got the last bargain.

I kind of hope not too though, as it would be nice if a few more people who have always wanted a Testarossa can make it happen.

Without the people who have owned them for years when they were cheap and really drove and maintained them, all the useful info and tips and tricks gained over the years can soon get lost and new owners can be at the mercy of the wolves trying to pull their pants down!

Anything you need to know or anything your told that doesn't seem to add up whether it's a small time mech or specialised dealer - it's always worth checking places like this forum to get the full story and hopefully save you more money to put in the fuel tank lol.

Don't forget to drive it too! Even if you want to keep the mileage low make sure you get some enjoyment from it - as most people will tell you on here. Even if you just took it on a 50m drive every 2 weeks over our "6 months of Summer" that's just 600m - and you will remember every one of them!

The Testarossa makes amazing music and not driving one would be like having a piano you can't play!

    Have fun.

    Dom.

    absolutely right

NO, never do this because the engine never will get temperature. if you go out for driving then minimum 20 miles at one time to warm the complete system and then you may listen to the

    Think he means miles!!!

Actually my tactic will be a bit different - 20 miles a fortnight, then bank up the extra miles for a biannual blast around Europe somewhere where I can enjoy the left hand drive on decent roads rather than the potholed rubbish around here.

I will make it biannual to alternate with the LHD 355 ive just bought - thats only done 25K Km as well

Sorry for the confusion I do mean 50 miles not metres lol.

As Joe said a minimum 20 miles to get it properly warm really - and even at that it won't really give u much chance to enjoy the engine to the full as u will b back home just as its warmed up! There is a lot of oil in there to get to temp.

Saying that as much as it just asks to be wound up, it still makes a lovely noise with part throttle and moderate revs - so u don't have to floor it and red line it every trip to enjoy - and that way you can keep to legal(ish) speeds....

Nice idea on a Europe trip though - not everyone gets to spend a few days or a week all to themselves just driving their Testarossa - bet you would become inseparable after a trip like that!

I wouldn't suggest you drive down potholes on purpose but the Testarossa has a lovely ride and it copes with our roads much better than you would expect.

Check out that vid on the Testarossa YouTube thread here that says "26 mins of Testarossa" - just to get you excited about what you've got coming!

It's not in English but is really interesting nevertheless and probably shows you what a Testarossa is like more than anyone can describe in writing :)

Lots of other fun vids posted there too!

    sorry also for the confusion:
the short cut "m" for me is always meter, the "mls" miles.
but good that we both mean the same :)

Finally managed to get a wheel off and have a proper look at the brakes on my "new" TR
Pics below. Disc is 330mm / 13" The Calipers look to be able to take a slightly bigger disc - my suspicion is they are the ones for the 355mm setup on a special mounting bracket.
Not going to do anything - they seem to be very effective, and fit the original 16" wheels very well. Just curious as to what they are exactly
