This makes a lot more sense. That's why I park at the Palazzo, its free! At the Winn I like that they have seen the light. When I do go to Caesar's, the parking area is bare compared to the way it used to be. That tells me a lot of locals don't park there any more, which also means less local traffic through your casino and the Forum shops.

My two parking areas are the Miracle Mile shops and the Palazzo. I like to walk so I can get just about any where the wife and I want to go from those 2 locations. I find I spend less money at the Bellagio, less at Caesars, less at The Excalibur/Luxor/Mandalay Bay now. Heck less at a lot of places I used to go. We used to go the Bucas there at Excalibur a lot. Now it's maybe once or twice a year.

I think Caesars properties don't charge parking if you're in their rewards program. I think you have to be above a certain level...T

Platinum level gets you free self and valet at all Caesars properties, that's easy to do, it's just 5000 points if I remember correctly. That's 2 good nights at a casino ;)

The Platinum level in M Life (the MGM properties) requires 200,000 "tier credits". This is about $8,000 spent on lodging, gambling, certain purchases at MGM porperties (restaurants in MGM, etc.) Your yearly balance is wiped clean end of Sept. each year, so you have to earn your level (there are 5, platinum is the fourth step on your way to Noir) every year.

I have a seven stars card from ceasars

Best part of it is that I didn’t have to earn it. Friend that has it put me down as her companion, so I get all the same privileges.

So, if you have a friend...

$8 grand is difficult to do for a local...

I believe that in the first "downturn" (which of course will happen at some point) MGM and Caesars will change the policy to give free parking to locals in an attempt to bring more people to the property.

Keith: When you and I had coffee at Bellagio, it costed me $12 in parking. Ridiculous IMO.

But it was worth every penny! :)

What was interesting is that when I left the property, they didn't even check my receipt. I asked the guy attending the gate "why" and he said they knew my license plate and the computer lifted the gate for me automatically.

HOW? How did they know that was my car that I paid for in a kiosk 5 minutes earlier and then walked to my car? There was no information on the receipt that indicated which car. All I did is pay and and walk to my car like 20 other people did at the same time.

So how did they know I paid and got in that car? Hmmm....

Your license plate is captured when you parked and your ticket was coded for your plate. When you paid, the system noted your car (plate) was good to leave. Your plate was captured again when you approached the gate, so it knew you were good to go.

Funny but I figured it out about an hour ago. I realized I had the ticket in the first gate and they must have taken a picture then and recorded it to my ticket.

To some degree it makes sense. You could just go to the koisk one hour after arriving and pay the ticket and then leave 3 days later. They have to know when you arrive, when you pay the fee, and when you actually leave.

Bob. You shoulda said something! I woulda walked to the pay kiosk with you, plugged in my card, and you save the park fee. In fairness to MGM you DID get a free coffee in the Chairman's Lounge:)

Thanks but I can still afford $12. :). The $12 was beside the point. Locals feel hosed by dropping by and seeing friends or stopping for dinner.

The new Wynn policy is a reasonable compromise. And it will probably keep the Fashion Mall from going paid parking as they are considering

Think about this. If Regents World and The Drew go free parking, that leaves the entire north strip free: Venetian, Wynn, Encore, Circus Circus, Stratosphere, and SLS. That's a very strong incentive to stay north.

And there is this: last month Vegas hit a new high in airline passengers but car visitors were down. Parking fees?????

The park fees are a real deterrent for the locals, it's true. My sister (and almost all of her neighbors who live up near the Alliante Casino) rarely go downtown and the parking fee thing really solidifed their decisions.

Why drive and deal with crazy traffic and then be charged on top of it?

I really think they had lost a lot of local business though. Out of all my friends and neighbors, my wife and I seem to be the only ones that spend time on the strip and Fremont street. Nothing is cheap and then top it off with charging locals for parking and they stay away. When my wife and I go shopping on the strip they often tell us they don't see locals.

These casinos forget that when the economy took a dump they were begging locals to go spend money with them. Now they give discounts to those from Calif or AZ but not locals? Crazy.

The Winn is smart. I don't think I have gone in the Winn and not spent $50. My wife likes to shop there but the last time she bought a purse we parked at the Palazzo and walked over. With what I spent on that purse they should have given me a limo ride from my house and back for shopping there.

I know we've stop going to the strip to eat and shop as much since parking fees were initiated for locals.

Whenever we're down there, we get asked where we're visiting from. I don't know how many times I've heard, "wow, we never see locals here anymore." It really is a kick in the ass to go to Caesar's to buy my wife a stupidly expensive pair of shows and then have to fork over a few more dollars for parking. A lot of the high-end stores seem to bend over backwards for you once they know you're local.

Update: Wynn resort and Encore have announced they will no longer be charging for parking. I hope the rest of the Casinos do the same.

I think it will break down by geography. Venetian and north will be free parking. This will include the new Resorts World and The Drew. SLS, Circus Circus (also MGM owned) and Stratosphere are already free parking as it the Fashion Mall.

The real question will be Caesars' properties are they on the cusp. If Caesar's went free parking it would pretty much isolate MGM as the last hold out. Tropicanna is charging on T-mobile even nights which sort of makes sense. They say the parking lots get full for their guests while locals avoid paying at Toshiba park

I stayed one night in the SLS last month. The hotel price was $40 a night (pretty good) but on check out they hit me for $48 in "resort fees". Now, in total 88 bucks a night isn't a bad price. But I can see how people are offended by these fees.
