Wyclef Jean is a great guy!

Yesterday, he came to perform at my school. When it was announced that he would be performing, i was dissapointed because i was not really a fan. He exceeed all my expectations by a large margin. I am not a fan of rap, but IMO Wyclef is not a rapper, he is a musician. He even took out his gutiar and covered some old rock n roll songs.
Eventually, the college was forced to end the performance early due to lightning, but he didnt go anywhere. He stayed on stage and even hopped on a bicycle and rode it around the crowd, finally ending up on top of a wall where he sang with no microphone for over 1000 people who gathered around (i couldnt really hear him and i was 10 ft next to him).
By his tour bus i even shook his hand. I have never had such contact with a famous musician, but it seemed as if he was a very down to earth guy, which says alot. Coming from a poor neighboorhood in brooklyn i think, he is now extremely wealthy, but it clearly doesnt go to his head. Its not too often that you will find a rapper (if you could cal him that) that doesnt sing about crime and violence, nor is full of himself like most rappers today who's "music" is terrible.
Wyclef also has an awesome car collection from what i understand (i heard he even has an enzo).

I think he was paid 40k to do the show, which is decent (same amount everclear was paid last year for a much worse performance). The budget for the day was over 100k, so with him, many more bands could come also. If we wanted someone like dave matthews (which btw, would result in me boycotting springfest) it would cost 2x as much and the rest of the day would have sucked because there would have been nothing to do.
After the college cancelled the show, he played one more song, and then hung out in the crowd. Im sure not many famous people would hang out in a crowd if they didnt have to.

 

The price quoted was for one of the guys to come.
Also i think in the contracts it says the artists get paid even if they end early. Blues traveler even has a clause that says they get paid even if they get sick and dont even show up, which is why they were not booked a few years ago.
