So today I was working on the dealership owners Ford GT and had to order part and was informed by our parts department that we had to prove ownership before Ford would release parts. I thought ok it's the dealership owners car so no problem. Only to find out that the car has never been titled and still shows as a car in inventory. So that got me to thinking .......Would you pay a premium to be able to buy this Ford GT 10 years after it was built and be listed as the original owner?

yes. as 1st owner, as of sale date, thats when the clock starts re factory warranty. so you're buying a 10 yr old car with full factory new car warranty.

MSO GTs command high premiums than one + owner cars. Would not make sense to register it at this point if you would want it as a collector car. One or second owner cars have very little price variance. I bought from the original owner but second owners cars were pricing pretty much the same. So I would not pay a very high premium to be the first owner.

I am not sure if Ford warranty works that way but I will find out tomorrow. .....my guess is that the 5 year 60000 mile power train warranty has expired by time. I will run the VIN and see what Ford Oasis says.

These are very bullet proof cars...in fact mine has never seen the dealer except for two recall campaigns. An MSO car could easily command 50 thousand U.S over a registered car. Not cost constructive just because of the warranty.

Yes, you can add 15 to 20% premium if you are the original owner!

Is that correct? Does that apply only to this Ford GT?

If you go buy XYZ new car that has been sitting on the lot for 8 months, your warranty isn't reduced by 8 months. New car warranty period begins when the car is SOLD to the end user, not the dealer.

Yes only to this one that I know of and not really sure how it works but I believe that after the 5 years have expired and not showing ownership it goes back to delivery date.

Might want to double check your stats on the warranty start. With new cars the warranty starts when the car is "RDR'ed" or reported sold by the dealer to the manufacture.

Let's just say if this is true, and I believe that this is true IMO, so what happens if you buy an MSO car that is now and will be more than 10 years old, and there are some issues with the car that may need OEM parts. Since it is supposedly still be under warranty, it will be tough to find OEM parts since some parts are sourced out by Ford and these companies may not be in business anymore.

I can tell you this....... normal stock vehicles warranty start date is date of sale .....however on this 2005 Ford GT which is owned by the dealership owner never regestered as sold and is part of dealership stock .....he drives it with his own dealer plates and I recently had to do some work on it and checked Ford Oasis for parts coverage and it shows warranty expired and warranty start date was delivery date. I ask the GM of the dealership and he said yes after the 5 years from the 5/50,000 mile warenty has expired and no ownership it goes back to delivery date and is sold as is. However you will get an orginal owner title.

I wonder if this goes true with the other brands or just for Ford only.

Thanks, that's good to know. A few years ago, my dealer had some problem of trying to find the warped rubber seals for my door on my Heritage but was able to locate it after a while.

Ford or any manufacture can cancel a warranty on any unsold item as long as the purchaser knows and agrees there is no warranty.

The premium bit, depends on how much the premium is over other low miles examples. We currently have a Lamborghini dealer with a 1990 Countach with one hundred and thirty kilometers, seats still in factory plastic, etc. owners private collection, etc. They are asking $799K U.S. Over the other Anni's for sale Id say no. Yes Id pay a premium, but not a crazy one.

Many people would pay extra. My friend bought a '74 Pantera brand new. He has a car dealer's license and never personally transferred the title so it is still on the original MSO and I guess would still be considered a brand new car.
