I am looking at a 360 that has had a replacement fender. The dealer certifies the car has been repaired properly. did not get door or hood. It is a story though. Would you buy the car? If so how much would you discount for a replacement fender? The car fax is clean, the car looks perfect.

Its one thing for you to discover this yourself but for them to tell you the story upfront I think you will be fine.

Do they have photo's of the damage before the repair. Do they have the repair recepts?

I would think it is possible to damage the suspension with only fender damage if the wheel takes the hit.

That raises another question. Original rims? Who did the paint?

IMO, if it's not well documented, not worth the risk. Unless it's a track car, I would pass, but that's just me.

I'll let others discuss the price discount (my number would be much higher than you are likely to get... If it is well documented, and only simple fender damage, I would require 15-20% discount to even consider it.)

Is there photographic history of the actual damage before the fender was replaced?

If not, I would take anything told by the dealer with a pinch of salt.
However if you are interested in the car and the other details stack up, then I would commission a thorough inspection by a well qualified expert for obvious reasons.

Others may disagree with my assessment but I would believe that a Ferrari with accident damage history would need to be priced at least 30%, if not more, below actual value.

Unless you are getting a huge discount (20-30%), I would stay away from the car. You will get clobbered whenever you want to sell it. F cars are very price sensative to mileage. When it come to any damage it is way more an issue than mileage IMHO.

I'm surprised you guys are giving discounts higher than mine! I tend to agree...

For what it's worth, to the OP, cars on salvage title are often listed with 30% (or less) discounts! What they eventially sell for on the other hand, I suspect is signif less.

It depends upon WHY the fender was replaced. Here are 2 VERY different examples:

    1) One of the people on this board has a 360. He lowered it, added larger wheels, and whaaalaaaa......the wheel rubbed the fender. When the fender was being rolled back into place, the fender metal cracked. He's currently getting it all fixed, and it should be as good as new.

    2) A bad accident and the fender was replaced. In this case, it's possible that the wheels, frame and/or suspension were also impacted.

Two very different scenarios. In #1, you should be fine. In #2, I would stay away.

If they have pictures of the damage (assuming it's minor), repair reciepts that show what was done, and it looks like the repairs were done properly, then you can buy the car.

I bet many of your cars have had this type of repair and you don't even know it (unless you're the original owner of course). If it's not a big accident and/or salvage title, I can't imaging you'd be able to get more than a few % discount, if any. Someone else won't care as much, and the seller can simply sell it to them.

If I'm not mistaken, a lot of ferraris are damaged in transit from Italy and body work is done to them in NJ before delivery. I'm pretty sure the dealer (if they themselves even know) will not tell you.

A lot of people pay for repairs like this out of pocket rather than reporting to the insurance company because they don't want a record of the repair being made.

Big hits are one thing, bumpers and fenders are another.

you should get some % off but it depends on why. before pictures tell the best story. As long as it is fixed properly with new ferrari parts, some shops say it is better then factory or at least the same. If you were sitting at a stop sign and you get rear ended and the shop repairs with all new parts, why should you take a 20% or more hit. it wasn't your fault. I see alot of people bad mouth damaged cars, but when its time to find one at there deep discount, they can't fine one. have the car checked out, take whatever discount you can and drive and enjoy the car.... good luck. I completely agree that it would have to be a BIG hit to get 10-30% off the price. A replaced fender is no big deal, it happens.

Maybe the question should have been:

"Would you buy a used Ferrari with a new fender?"

Or "would you buy a new fender with a used Ferrari"?

    The dealer disclosed it -

Its good work and you could not tell -

    Get receipts -

Check the car fax - is it clean?

Buy the car and get a couple of grand off -

    Enjoy...its a car.

Some of those cars don't even look like they were tied down on the ship. Some pretty serious damage.

A fender? Who cares. Fixed right and no one will ever know.

Like the man said it's far less damage than many "Never been repaired" cars.

Buy it, drive it, and fuggettabout it.

No. For the price of admission to these cars, I need a no-story one. There are a lot of these things out there. No reason to take a storied one.

    My 2 cents.

If it makes you feel better... The point I was trying to make is that a lot of the "no stories" cars have stories, they're just called "secrets".

to add to my other reply... I can show you pictures of cars that were hit and don't have salvage title, and then some barely hit that do have salvage title. I happen to buy exotics with salvage title so long as i see the pictures before they were fixed. It's great to get a good deal just because the fender and 2 wheels were bent!

get the best deal and drive the car. have fun...

I have owned a ton of porsches and mercedes and have always stayed away from cars with any stories. If I could get a 30 percent discount on the car then I would probably buy it. I had an E55 that showed up on car fax as having been in an accident. The front lower spoiler was repainted.

Having said all that, I think I want a ferrari without any stories. I don't want to have to tell one when I sell it.
