Sounds like you are a willing Guinea Pig? Let me know, I have a very slightly tacky feel to the leather on my 348 and would like it to be more slick like in my Q45. I always find myself relocating the gripping position to avoid having my hands stick to the wheel.

I tried the black shoe polish trick on my 308 wheel. Wouldn't say it worked great, but it did help a little. The best shoe polish is paste BTW... cream polish or liquid actually dries out the leather.

Either way it helped, but leather dye (or even the "leather resto stuff) is probably a better long term solution.

Thanks-I'll try it with the paste and if I run across some of the resto stuff, I'll get it. I don't have to worry about getting it on my pants....I don't wear any when I drive the F-car...........just kidding.

When I restored the interior of my old car I used a product called Molecubond. GREAT stuff and the right sheen. I got it at pep boys in the spray paint section. Designed for leather and the like. My wheel looked brand new. I only painted the leather.

I bought the leathereeeek and it was way offin sheen and not durable at all. Not recommended.

KIWI makes a black leather dye, cost 5$. Works great. I osted about this before. Wipe on, wipe off. Did every black interior leather part in my car. 9 months later, still looks like brand new.

Dont do the shoe Polish ... it will work ok for a while and then give a bluish tint if the car is in the sun... and makes the leather crack... look up Leatherique on line... www.leatherique.com and get their dye... also get some crack filler if you have any nicks... take the wheel off.. clean it with their pristine clean lighly scrub with a green pot scraper... let the wheel dry and then put 2 coats of dye on it let it dry ... cover with the rejuvinator oil... and voila... new steering wheel... will look just as good if not better than new... I've done 2 of them - works great!!! - cost about $50.00 in total but well worth it!

The leather steering wheel cover is a "consumable", over time. Aren't there replacements available?

My Alfa has the laquered wood wheel. In 27 years, I've gone through five or six sets of driving gloves.

Today, the "driving gloves" are on the wheel instead of your hands.

Find a leather shop, their is a dye in a bottle you use with a swab, then use a clear coating solution you put over the dye to protect it that comes in a bottle as well and it gives a nice shiny factory sheen, costs about $10 for both.

try some "marine..[hooa!]" leather dye...when you open the bottle it smells good and strong [this is a lacquer base] if no smell upon opening then it's water based and not much good....follow with a light polish with black or clear paste polish]...you can usually find the good dye at a px on a base or at a saddle shop...good stuff.

Same problem on my 308. I scrubed it yesterday with paint thinner , sanded and steel wooled it. No more tacky feel. I think I just need to redye it now to get the factory look back.
